Good point on the CO.

When lumber prices come down a bit, i'm putting up a smallish detached.
You probably shouldn't have an attached garage.

Before i met my wife, she had renters almost burn her house down. Volkswagen caught on fire in the garage. Then the natural gas furnace decided to join in.

I don't and won't have one, even if the FD was next door. An ounce of prevention and all of that...
Another problem is appearing, with so called keyless ignitions; people are forgetting to shut the engine off and getting CO poisoning.

At our first house, we had a small garage that was separated from the house by an 8' breezeway. So technically, it was attached because of the roof over the breezeway, but we had to go outside and walk 8' to get into the garage.

At our current house, we have a 1 car garage about 20' from the house, and a 2 car garage about 5' past that. So we've never had an attached garage in 35 years. It's never been a problem.

What I like is opening the garage door with the switch in the house, then using the remote starter to start the car to get it warmed up, and not having to worry about carbon monoxide getting into the house.

About the only thing I'd do if I had an attached garage is put a screen in front of the overhead door to use it as a porch.

That would be nice to operate. Quiet and no more $@%*$ freaking oil changes (I think).
Only thing that would kill me on something like that is enough voltage at the barns for recharging. The first few brave souls will be on their own I bet for service. Maybe after a few years, servicing them will become more mainstream?

I still say its a fools game thinking it’s “carbon neutral“. Power plants will be belching out black soot to recharge them! (until we FINALLY ago with NUKE) Until then it’ll be folks screaming “racism” or “unfair” if they are next to these power plants.
Anyways….bring it on!

Most have returned to nature but for years when a rural farmstead got car truck tractor the garage were built on opposite side of the gravel road where the home stood. This was common in the 1920-1940 era. You could them with 3 foot of new wood on one end as vehicles got longer.

Currently my dream EV is a Tesla with LFP battery pack for safety and longevity.

Looks like my “running out of voltage in the Holland Tunnel scenario“ is sinking in a bit with you, huh? Lol

Do they still block vehicles with propane from going in the Holland Tunnel?

I remember a youngster, alarms and red flashing lights, when my dad attempted to go thru the tunnel with propane on board. :D I thought it was pretty cool, all the commotion, my dad not so much.

I've often thought about putting a little electric radiator with a timer in my truck, so that it would start heating up the cab at around 3:00. It would ALMOST be safe to do so...

Jstpssng you are like many of us. I just watched the above speech by a guy my age that did act on ideas that he would wake up with. EVs are here today because of visions people woke up with in the morning. While in high school I could rebuild an engine but Popular Science mags helped open my eyes to see the future was computers.

After highschool in 1969 I took my life savings of $1800 and did an 8 month computer programming study at Electronic Computer Programming Institute of Louisville. April 1970 I got my first job operating and programming on an IBM 360-20 card system. Output was by printer or punch cards.

As we know today cars contain 40+ computers enabling the EV revolution to happen today.
