Battery Powered Week Whacker

How heavy is the chainsaw? I've been thinking of a cordless chainsaw for arborist work, but need one I can run one handed at arms length. 18" is pretty big for that. 10" would be adequate. Anything larger and I'll fire up the Husquvarna.

I have a little Dewalt 20V chainsaw. It's easily a 1 handed saw and a little animal. Very impressed. battery life is great as well. I use the 5 amp battery.

Went to my local farm store today to look at the Stihl battery powered weed wacker. $349!!!! I think that's a little steep. I'll try Lowes tomorrow to check out the Kobalt. A lot of you guys seem to like that one. Plus I'll see what else Lowes has. Also went to TSC today, of course they're out of stock on all of their weed wackers. They're always out of stock on everything. I don't know why I even bother checking them out anymore, they never maintain stock on anything.

If I was making the change to electric which I am considering the harbor freight line gets excellent reviews. Full line of yard equipment including push mower. I've been lurking on their site since they came out and can't find a negative review.

Last night I saw on-line that Lowes has the 80 volt battery powered weed wacker on sale for $194, so I went to Lowes this morning to get one. It's too hot to assemble it right now, but I'll assemble it and start using it once it cools down, hopefully in a few days.

Thanks for all the replies!!!!

Yup, I will report on it, when I finally get to assemble and use it. It's almost 100 degrees and very humid today in upstate New York. It' the first time I can remember in years when my wife and I are to hot to just about do anything. Even my dogs are too hot to do anything.

The kitchen table is where battery operated tools are assembled(along with carburetors and gunsmithing chores).

OK, I finally had time to assemble the Kobalt 80 volt weed whacker today, and yes, Doofy, I assembled it on the kitchen table...where else??? Assembly was easy, except the holes on the guard were too small, and I had to drill them out. It works well. I did my dogs' fenced in area, some big steps made of railroad ties that lead to my pasture and some fence lines. I used it for about 1/2 hour and all of the lights for the battery are still lit, meaning it still has most of it's charge. It's powerful enough to take down grass and some pretty big weeds. I'll have to use it more to figure out what angle to hold it so it cuts level, but that's my problem and not the wacker's. All in all it works very well.

I wanted to buy some prefilled spools when I bought it, but they were sold out. I've never had good success in winding the line for any weed wackers, I can never get it tight enough or even enough, so next time I'm at Lowes, I'll see if they have any pre-filled spools and I'll buy several, if not, I'll order them on-line.

And the machine is warrantied for 5 years and the battery for 3 years. Hopefully, I won't need the warranty, it seems like a pretty solid tool.

Sounds like a good purchase. Battery tools are the future...light weight, powerful and reasonably priced. I've been impressed with all my cordless tools.
