Battey Tenders do they discharge during power outages?

What brand is yours? Just curious.

I've got the "Original" Battery Tender by Deltran... 6-volt and 12 volt chargers and they are made in USA

About 8 years ago, Deltran started manufacturing their high sales volume chargers overseas...

The Battery Tender Plus and Junior are high volume.

They still make their commercial chargers in the USA...

Worthy of mention is 8 volt Tenders are available directly from Deltron for those with 8 volt batteries.

So the simple answer is some of their current line of chargers are made in USA and some are not.

Thanks for the input. Mine look like the junior, but they don't say junior on them. Just battery Tender. Definately Deltron.

Such a great discussion. What are opinions on solar trickle chargers such as: http://www.harborfreight.com/15-watt-solar-battery-charger-44768.html

Not so good for a garages vehicle/tractor, but one outside would avoid running an extension cord.

Also any recommendations other than the HF offering?

As previously mentioned, I'm off grid so prefer not to plug anything in I don't have to.

Tender Solar Chargers should ship in January... they come with a 5 year warranty.

I used a elcheepo ($9.00 0n sale) and it boiled ou my generator battery.
When opened all I found was a transformer and a single diode.
OK, it makes DC and it will charge so it is not false advertising but it did cost me a battery.
Live and learn!

I looked at the Schumaker chargers at Walmart, Made in China. No tenders there, just chargers.

I looked at a Battery Tender Jr. at Camping World, no where on the packaging does it tell you where it is made. It was in a plastic clam shell and I could just see the 'Made in China' label on the transformer. This model has the transformer and circuitry together. It does have features that HF tender does not, the LED tells you what mode it is currently in (charge/no charge etc)

I opened up my HF tender and it has a circuit board and components. I see no reason why it wouldn't work as advertised. Maybe I will sketch out the schematic and someone who remembers their basic electronics more than me can comment on it

Cost. The HF float chargers are great - kind of a weird circuit inside, a little sloppy but it works. I got 4 a few years ago for $5 each on sale - they were a little low in voltage, around 12.8V, so I modified them to produce ~13.2. I've had several batteries sitting with them for 3 years now - all are in great shape. I got 4 more this year (also $5 each) and they were all in the range of 13.35V-13.65V, which is just about perfect. I use the highest-voltage charger (13.65V) on my tractor, since it is outside and standing off the coldest temps.
