Richard I'll see if I can find some you can visualize and if they interest you I'll get the measurements of the material sizes.

Out of hundreds of mill pics. I don't seem to have many of the dogs check through the pics. in Photo bucket there may be more. Mean while I can take some descent pics. if you like.
Cheers Bill

Neat stuff. I have a side question.

Can any of you sawyers recommend a type of wood to go on top of the piers under my double wide? They used pine about 12 years ago and they are dilapidated.

I have access to some fresh sawn cedar wood. Would that work?

Thanks in advance.

Cedar is soft, and may compress. I would use locust or white oak. Quite rot resistant, and hard.

Like mentioned cedar may compress & I'm not familiar enough with what's available where you live to give advice. For cedar to work it would have to have very tight growth rings and that's not very common.

Greetings, I used square tubing I had, just bought some that it would slide into. I tacked them a bit too close to the guide, not sure if I should grind them off and move them over or use a 1 by to space the log or CANT.

I like the way your stops and dogs are made, just swing up and down.

Kyle, i've used Doug Fir in many places, it's strong and wants to last forever.

Some years I asked you about that:Come and take It motto. You gave me a brief description and I looked it up, Great story, told it often.

Thank you, the motto has gained significance in the last 2 terms.

I think you may be happy if you move the log posts in just far enough to clear the band wheel for sawing higher cants. The stationary posts are will be more stable and accurate than ones that swing.

Valley this would be a useful mode to your mill could save you from sawing off a log post. Look in the pic. the 90 degree bent rod that sits in front of the blade guide roller. Sits just ahead of the blade and will stop the saw before you run into a post if you forget to lower it.

Billrog, I like that, in the picture above, I'll try to do something like that. Just looked at the dogs in your photo, that's what I'm thinking, may use round stock so the gard will be pushed down or stop the carriage.

Is the cross rod on your mill, the ones the dogs slide on solid or like 3/4" plumbing pipe?
