Valley I'll measure and take a couple more pics. for you I've been told by others that galv. pipe doesn't work well because the posts won't stay in place with friction they want to slide.

Hi Billrog, Galvi pipe doesn't work, Because it's galvanized and slips? What about Black Plumbing pipe.

What I mean is: Plumbing Pipe shouldn't be too flimsy?

Thanks close up pictures would be great. I'm thinking also redoing the track so that the wheels of the mill carriage ride on the upright of the 3" Angle. I'll have another look at your track. Thanks Bill for taking the time with me.

Here's what I meant about redoing the track.

Maybe you can see in this picture that there is 3" angle, and that the mill is riding on the flat part of the angle where there is smaller angle welded. I'm thinking of having the carriage wheel riding on the upright.

Riding on the upright sounds like a plan you can make something to carry some felt sweepers to keep the track clean as well. I lube my felts with diesel and chain oil mix to keep the pitch off. Round log posts work well because you don't have to lift them out to turn them around for holding narrow boards. Mill 2016 002.jpgMill 2016 001.jpg
The rods that came with the mill were solid but the ones I made were out of heavy 1 1/4" pipe and are galv. which I've had no trouble with . I slid the dog up to the log give it a kick and give the crank handle a couple of turns and it stays in place at the bottom by friction. Hope this helps.

Hi, I like that. You think they have to be 1 1/4"? I have 3/4" Might have some 1". We live in the mountains, long way to go for material, there is a place, come to think about it that might have pipe also. I do like what you have there. and a bumper would push the stop down rather than hit it with the blade and the Dog would stop the carriage.

Years ago, wifey and I got married in BC, we had gone to visit a friend and they cancelled her visa when we tried to re enter the states. Not like in the movie. She, an Australian, was told by the Canadians she could stay as long as she needed to, being a member of the common wealth. She stayed with a friends mum on Vancouver Island for several day while I contacted my congressman, nothing helped we still had to run the border. They're watching the wrong border.

Richard I'd use what I had at hand and if it's to light just do it over with bigger . You may want to edit some of the last post Big Brother may see it.

Greetings Bill, Re: Editing, We paid the fees and fines, we got doctors letters showing she isn't diseased, letters from Australia showing she wasn't a criminal, It cost thousands, and thousands. But we're legal. They reviewed our case, this was 23 years ago. Our oldest is 18.

Thanks for your concern.

Don't know how clear this picture show, I have the mill on the upright, it rides badly, every irregularity in the upright angle stops the wheel.

Someone suggested widening the lot you may be able to see in the picture. so the angle rides in the slot against the wheel. What's your thought? You can see, maybe, the angle is too wide for the slot, or put it back the way it was or get new wheels without the slot, pain in the kneck, it is.

Richard the tracks do have to be next to perfect eg. shimmed at the joints so their flush and dead straight any pitch build up on them also makes the carriage bump. As long as the grooves in the wheels fit over the track they should be good. My mill came with felt sweepers just ahead of the wheels that I keep soaked with diesel and chain oil mix. to keep the track clean. I've not used other mills with different stile wheels but have been told by others this is the best system because your not bouncing over bark and dirt on the flat rail systems. It may be better to try and narrow the slot if you can my wheels just have a 1/4" deep groove in them.
Good to hear you jumped through the hoops for your wife's sake ).

Bill, Narrowing the slot, how do you do that? There is a slot in the center of the groove, not quite as large as the upright.

No Idea Richard :confused:if the slot is the wrong width it may be pinching the track I was thinking maybe the wheels were adjustable like some pullys where can can make them wider or narrower. The wheels should be riding solid on top of the track to reduce friction. Also just a slight clearance on either side of the track.
