Bent pins: fix or replace?

I guess it doesn’t take much to bend the isolation pins for the boom and swing arm on a BY85 backhoe; it seems TYM may have made these with softer metal on purpose.

Would you guys bother looking for a machine shop with a press to straighten them back out, did you buy your own press or do you keep a few spares?

Have you checked already? ...because I wouldn't expect basic pins to be too expensive...

I would look into what replacement OEM pins cost. Also why did the pins get bent in the first place? Might want to figure out the cause prior to investing in new.

This could have happened during shipment. I didn’t force any hydraulics too harshly when pulling them, but I do admit I was a first-time operator when removing them… figured it was me and they must just be really soft metal.

Doesn’t appear to be any damage and machine works great. ‍

I’ll see if I can slide them back into place like they are now and that might indicate it happened during shipment.

My experience says straightening pins is pretty easy job if they aren’t bent to bad and you have a decent press.

That's what I did when I forgot one was in.

My TYM backhoe is a larger model than yours, but I broke the lockout pin on mine as well. Welded that pin back together (needed the welding practice). It broke again (still needed more welding practice!). Bought a new pin from Tractor Supply... it hasn't broken since.

Consider yourself lucky. There have been reports of housing being broken rather than the pins breaking or bending...on Kubota backhoes.

With my backhoe, I have forgot to remove locking devices, one is a pin that I never use for swing, and the other is a strap that locks the boom. Years ago, the pin on the boom got pulled out when I forgot about it. But I welded it back in with some reinforcement, and it had worked flawlessly since. As tested many times over the years.

Each design is different, of course...

I think the pins are a softer material by design. I have a unique redneck idea I’m going to try and will post back here.
