Best 5ton machine??

I'm trying to find a digger around the 5ton area, Just wondered if anyone has any recommendations whats good and what to stay away from?

Also steel or rubber tracks? Most of my work is in muddy fields or steep slopes so would Steel be the best choice? all I know is there expensive to replace and rubber is a lot cheaper, but I don't know if it will cope with the mud?

If your talking about mini excavators then chances are you'll end up with a rubber track? I have a 4000lb mini JCB ex and love it{wife loves it even more}. I have heard stay away from bobcat, say they're under powered, not sure how true this is????? I like cat and have also heard good things about yanmar. Of course if you're going used. no matter what machine you get, it will depend on the care it was given.

I would be looking for something between 10,000-13,000lbs. The only thing i've had experience with is Kubota, which was fine until I needed parts for it! very expensive and hard to find in the UK.

As was said previously, if the machine is used, almost any brand will do. I would suggest staying away from steel tracks. Most small machines will have rubber tracks anyway. For the most part rubber tracks will be maintenance free. If possible, choose a popular brand that is the same as dealers in your area. I have a 5000lb Gehl, which is the same as Mustang, and Neuson. I'm very happy with it. I also have driven many other brands. Each will be a little different.

You can talk to several rental dealers, and they might have some information or suggestions on various brands.

If you will be using different size buckets, look for a machine with a quick attach bucket mount.
