Best all around gun?

Don't discount some of the late low brass. I used some really good Remington's this dove season. Loved the way it patterned too.

On a perfect gun note. I won a Winchester super X3 last Friday night at a DU banquet. Looks to be a really nice gun. Made in belgium. I don't really need it, I shoot my benelli sbe2 mostly with a rem 1187 as backup. Perfect though because it cost me a $20 ticket. Anybody have any experience with this gun? Might trade it for a 20 gauge for my nephew.

i dunno.. i might try a box.. but I have my doubts.

mostly nowadays to speed up clays with my buds.. we al shoot A5's vs DBL BBL's anymore.

I've yet to find a low brass load that did not hang now and then in a A5.

I've lost duck to hanging low brass... my mistake for using it ov course..

I didn't realize you were using an A5. I'm with you on that. My pheasant gun is a sweet 16 A5. Only high brass in that. Usually 7-1/2 or a 6 in high brass. I guess there just isnt enough energy in a low to move all that metal.

yep.. them 'double recoil' shotguns hate the low brass for sure...

I only feed mine high brass.. 7-8-9, depending on what we are doing.

we used to shoot a variety of stuff on clay day.. pumps, singles, doubles.. etc.. etc. just got to be too much work.. now as said.. al the guys bring a5's

I sometimes even switch to my light 20 to save the shoulder on days we do 5 sets of 25

what's wrong with an impuls 'want' of a legal product.

if I'm in the checkout and see an impulse want for some chewing gum.. it's not 'evil' because it's impulse.

on the other hand.. waiting that long time for the classes, mail.. application may mean the difference of you getting broke into in a week, or being able to defend yourself when that happens.

lots of angles to look at.

the tone of your messages witht eh 'impulse' and the other messages mention of 'need' predisposes a negativity towards gun ownership.

if that works for you.. cool.

don't work for me though. No canada for me... :)

I think you are mistaking my tone. I am absolutely not negative towards gun ownership. I own guns and have so all my life as mentioned in my previous post.

By impulse I meant someone that is not currently a gun owner, when in an emotional state might think a gun is the answer. If it was easy to go out and get a gun, on a poor impulse they may just do something stupid on impulse. As an example when guns were not as restricted, suicides by handgun was an alarming statistic. Since the restrictions came into effect, the result being background checks, spousal approval and delays to gun ownership, suicides by handguns has declined.

The Canadian restrictions seem to work. I dont mind them at all.

I took two courses and passed. I sent in my application approved by my spouse and ex-spouse. RCMP did a background check and approved. No criminal record. I waited to be contacted by my local provincial firearms officer. Application approved. License received in the mail. Off to the local firearms supermarket checkout counter I went. On an impulse, I bought a handgun. LOL

Have suicides in Canada declined overall?

n.b.
A cursory search via google indicates that Canada has a somewhat higher suicide rate than the USA, and both are markedly higher than Mexico.

I don't quite understand that.... Is it important that your wife approve of you getting a gun? Or the Ex???

I always thought that being mature was license enough and not a wife's approval or an ex wife's..... That's screwey.

I think......He's indicating that the law in Canada requires that other people in the household must be aware or acknowledge in some way the the gun ownership is accepted...... not sure by any means.

Maybe another Canadian can verify.... I would spend an hour on the web searching but......It's not that high on my list of priorities I guess.
Mace! Oh.. Mace got a question for ya

When you get a firearms license, your current partner and any partners from the last 2 years have to either sign to say they know you are applying for a gun or the registrar will contact them and tell them. My understanding is its there so if there is a domestic dispute the other party has a chance to inform someone of their concern.

It won't prevent it from being granted per say unless the partner(s) brings something important to light like severe depression, threats, mental illness etc.

Guns aren't supposed to be for home defence in Canada, as I said, hunting, target and collection, none of which are impulsive to get started at. Once in the system you can buy a gun with a 2 minute phone call to change the ownership of the serial number.

If you're in a gun owning family, its sort of like getting your drivers license, a rite of passage for teens to get their gun safety and hunters safety courses and their PAL.

My wife and I did not take the course, we simply challenged by taking the test. We passed fine, 30 mins total each with written and practical components. Once you pass its good for life I believe?
