Best method for a tractor to move/haul/process downed logs?

LOL. I don't own a skid steer. Nice try though, but epic fail. Is a tractor your hammer? LAffin

You seem to have an issue with my suggested method for working on those conditions. I have no idea why my opinion bothers you so much but it shouldn't. If you feel a different approach will work feel free to give it but stop with all the trashing my opinion and derailing the thread with insults. I have no problem with you sharing your opinion. I just see a lot of limbs that are not tire friendly and would suggest something different with track to avoid flats. I have seen many skid steers working in similar conditions and believe it has some advantages in that situation.

I do have a problem with your "suggested Method" for those conditions. All you offer up is, "you need a skid steer, nothing else with touch that". I hope your not that dense to believe what your saying. There are multiple year long threads that offer up lots of examples of tractors working in the woods with pretty good results. I'll wait while you offer up how that is not the same thing, because at this point that's about all you have.

But, I will not stop you from arguing with the rotting stump.

LOL. All I have??? You really are upset about this. I take it you dont' handle people with different opinions well.

I'm not arguing with you or anyone else in this thread. I've never said you method wouldn't work either. I also never said a tractor wouldn't work for this. You need to calm down. I simply suggested other methods based on my experience in the woods similar to this and being around commercial logging. Plenty of other have suggested equipment like excavators and even telehandlers, no reason to freak out and throw a fit.

I'm not going to resort to personal insults about being dense or stumps like you are so please just have a great day and stop derailing this thread.

I'm sorry, I did not know I was now responsible for your feelings. I will take that into consideration next time you and that stump are going at it.

Well since the OP bought a tractor and the thread is still going, I will show how my Compact Telehandler took out an old stump, with the stump bucket, in less than ten minutes.

You can see the size of the root ball in the 51 inch grapple opening.

You just had to bring up "stumps" didn't you.... ;)

I would have rooted it out of the ground with my Grapple and carried it away. Saved the trip back to the shed to change attachments.... :)

Watch out XFax,

Next Snobs is going to flame out on you for suggesting something other than a tractor might work better. Hopefully he has calmed down by now. LAffin.

Man that thing is cool. Makes me wonder how it would do with a hydraulic skidding winch on the boom. I like your electric setup on the back in this thread.

Always cool to see how everyone else accomplishes the same task even if it is with different equipment. What about that other grapple you had in the background of one of your pics on another thread. What does that go to?

You are just responsible for your own actions and feelings which are obviously hurt. Now all you are doing is embarrassing yourself with more of the same behavior that got you upset in the first place. It's ok for people to suggest other equipment than what you prefer. Everyone else on the thread is ok with that but you. Just relax and try to contribute instead of being angry and insulting. It's not very productive and no way to spend a day all upset over nothing.

Lets try this instead.

What did you think about the skid plate and branch bars on the tractor?

What do you think about using the telehandler for this task?

I had the stump bucket on and was working in the area, so I would have had to go get the grapple any way.

It was the stump that I have used many times testing the lift power. With the boom retracted and the scale zeroed from the weight of the chain I slowly raised it and saw the scale show 5001, then overflow.

So I backed up, extended the boom all the way, it took 3720 pounds to lift the rear end up off of the ground.

This is the 44 inch wide Gorilla Grapple, it opens to 31 inches.

Pulling a ten inch cedar stump with the two center tines:

Must be nice to be able to do that kind of work so easily. It takes me a while to get'er done with my equipment, but I can still do it - just slower.
