I needed to turn the cutting edge around on a loader bucket but 3 of the plow bolts had corroded square shoulders so the nuts couldn’t be removed.

Normally I would just torch them off but I didn’t have any the right size (20 mm x2” or 3/4 x2”). And being Sunday I wouldn’t be able to get them today.

WHAT, :D not in stock?
Thanks for making me feel just a tiny bit better about my meager (compared to yours) hardware inventory.

Re: Big Barn痴 Retirement Farm Shop

Richard that's a real dandy unit there. I've seen a few of that vintage around here on the side of the road for sale but all my sons happened to be daughters and I estimated that constant adjustments would be necessary for a proper job. (not a one man operation).

I think we all know that no matter what fasteners you try to stock up on you find out awful quick what you DON’T have

Of course!!!

Must be a nice smooth ride having that long wheel base to accommodate a 28 MPH road speed!

I still think about the old days wrecking my back, roading backhoes, as they bounced down the road at 20 MPH. On short moves it was still preferable to trailering.

Modern ones seem to travel a lot quicker AND smoother. One of my wheel loaders has ride control and I assume backhoes now have similar features.

Anyone with experience?

That Grader goes down the road very easily. Goes almost as easily backwards. I can back it at 20mph. Leave front tires straight and use rear articulation to steer.

Backhoes 30 years ago were extremely dangerous to road. Way too light in the front. My old 555A will run somewhere around 17mph and that's plenty.

Newer hoes improved dramatically with almost all of them being 4wd now. That allows them to carry their weight more centered over the axles. Rare to see them doing any loping when at road speed. My ole hoe will lope the front tires off the ground.

Re: Big Barn痴 Retirement Farm Shop

See if TBN will host this video... This is a JD770D grader, 2006 model I believe. JD has a very intelligent system that controls the engine/trans. I was having a discussion with some guys on Heavy Equipment about graders. Typical Cat versus Deere discussion. A Cat grader will not do this with anything near this smoothness. Their 3rd to 4th shift the machine almost coasts to a stop before it engages.

Sorry for the sidetrack Terry. :)
