for those of you who live south of the area where the earth freezes, this is a trench for a footing. It must be 42" below grade in this locale. The cement man needs it to be 6' wide 'cause his men are fat (did I say he didn't show up to place the forms?). Our trench depth varies from 23" to 42" deep because of the natural grade, the transit keeps us on target. The footing will be 10" thick and 20" wide, so I'm told, and I hope to live to see it.

did I mention that we have encountered some rocks at this site? With a little planning and the BH90 you can't lose. I can't say enough good things about the Hensley teeth on the BH bucket. They don't come cheap and they are worth the brass.

because the cement men are fat I cut this ramp at the easiest access point so they wouldn't have to negotiate a ladder. I know their big beer gut would obscure the rungs and disaster would follow. Listen cement men, whatever it takes I will do so we can get the ball rolling. Snow is just around the corner.
Actually this is standard practice in these parts.
The next post will hopefully show more progress, we are just playing the waiting game right now. 3000# concrete will cost $72/yd for this job. That is down some from last fall. The formed & poured 24'x36' foundation will cost $3800.- I figure thats about $1500.- for cement and the rest for beer and anchor bolts.
Thanks so much for looking,
Martin

It's looking good Martin.

Sorry to hear about your subs. It's all part of the game. The really good ones are almost impossible to get ahold of. I'd be more concerned if they didn't have anything else to do.

As for the beer guts. That's just a sign of being well fed, well paid and having plenty of jobs. LOL

Of course, it could also mean they are just lazy and drink too much, kind a like me. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement Eddie.
Your little project is coming along pretty nicely too, I might add.
Best of luck,
Martin of patience

So, while I was whining, guess who showed up with his kids in the heat of the mid day... the lovely cement man. He framed the footer on Saturday and poured on Monday. Then he formed and poured the foundation on Wednesday. He stripped on Thursday. We started backfilling on Saturday.
This pic shows the typical footer with the foundation on top.
The utility conduits were stubbed in place before the footer was poured, the paint stripe is there so we can find the conduits to tie into when we dig the utility trench. The trench will go in last because it will be terribly in the way when backfilling and can't be covered before the inspector ok's it.
