No! Sitting nice and quiet about 20 feet away. Nikon D40 on tripod in front of me. Been shooting since 1092 and have learned to be patient and quiet. After getting setup, it took about 10 minutes and the birds were back.

Really nice pictures and congratulations on your longevity !

Bob,

Dang it!! You beat me to it. I was going to ask how someone managed to live that long. Diet? Exercise? :)

Nice pics, thanks. Pretty funny the one bird pulling the other one's tail. The buntings are almost too bright to be true, gorgeous.

Very nice shots, Walt. I especially like the one of the squabling females. We've had lots of painted buntings at our bird feeders this year and last year. I've also seen several in the middle of the gravel road. I think they must eat small gravel like chickens eat rocks to help grind up their food. That's the only reason I can account for the painted buntings being in the road so much when other birds are not.

The Scotts songbird mix has nuts and dried fruits in it. The Cardinals really love that along with the sunflower seeds.

I just have to make sure that the Doves can't get to the food. They are such pigs and make a mess getting to just the Sunflower seeds.

I have found that there is a lot of diversity in this area. For a couple of years now, have been hearing them but only saw the cardinals (can't miss the bright red blur even while driving.)

I am also hearing birds that if, I am right about the sounds, they won't come to a seed feeder. I have also seem the rapid flash of the hummingbirds. Once the house is built and can keep the nectar feeders stocked and cleaned and also keep some water stocked, should start to catch a lot of other birds.

Thanks for the answer. The other rare bird I've seen but not been able to take a pic is a Pileated Wood pecker. There is a really big one that visits my neighbor's trees. I would guess he's about a foot long from head to tip of tail.
