Quick update:

I'm going tomorrow to pick up the tractor from the friend. I told him I wanted the loader to attach to my new MF 1215, and he "suggested" I just take the whole tractor.

I still don't know how this is going to change much. I may park it in the garage this winter and tinker as occasion permits.

When you get the tractor, for giggles, try giving each cylinder a squirt of 80w90 gear oil. Wait 30 minutes, then try to start it.

If the rings are bad, the gear oil will seal them temporarily and allow it to start (in theory...).

I have another question...

The guy who has it said that someone told him that after trying to start this beast so many times we've filled the cylinders with fuel, and it will never start like that.

Any thoughts??

Any ideas how to get rid of excess fuel in the cylinders??

I would think that all the unburnt fuel has been pushed out during each 4 cycle event. Diesels engines are not prone to flooding like a gasser will. IMHO

If you want to make sure the cylinders are clear pull the injectors and then with the fuel cutoff engaged crank the engine for a while. You could also leave the injectors in and do the same but it is harder on the starter and batteries.

Wait 1 hour. Cylinder rings have a gap and the fluid will go down past the rings and into the crank case oil. (Pull the dip stick and see if the oil is fuel contaminated using the drop of oil on a clean paper towel test. Fuel will spread faster than oil and will make a halo)

Ask him if the diesel fuel has fouled the spark plugs (giggle).

When my 655 stuck the rings I did the old ATF in the injector hole to make it start would not go then just . Does the thing turn over evenly when cranking or does the sound go up and down. Like I have compression ,I don't have compression ,I have compression or does it sound the same . Hey JUST RIP THE THING TO PARTS AND FIND OUT WHAT IS WRONG !!! The suspense is justabout KILLING me! Yeah. That's pretty much the plan from here. It goes like this...

1) Tear off the loader for the new tractor.
2) Start tearing the thing apart to sell the parts on E-bay.
3) While tearing the thing apart look for any glaring obvious issues.
4) If I find issues, fix them and put it back together again.
5) If I don't find issues, just sell the parts and forever wonder what was wrong.

P.S. False alarm about getting the tractor today. I didn't realize yesterday that today was going to be dedicated to resolving the My-29-Foot-Camp-Trailer-Is-Too-Big-For-My-1/2-Ton-Truck issue. I spent nearly the whole day looking at 3/4 ton trucks that were way out of my price range or looking at much smaller trailers. Now that I finally have time to do something, my old 1/2 ton truck is still at the trailer sales place getting a new 5th wheel hitch to pull the new 17 foot trailer that we bought.

I'm planning for next week.

Just a brief update. I brought the tractor home yesterday. I haven't done anything with it yet, but it's home now.

I'm getting pretty good at loading this tractor on my tilt trailer with a come-along. I'd have sprung for a power winch some time ago, but everytime I load it up the theory is that I'm taking it to get fixed, and I'll just drive it up onto the trailer to bring it home.

It's still sitting on the trailer now. I haven't decided what to do with it yet. I'd thought about offering it on craig's list or something as-is before I went to the effort to tear it apart.
