Blew up Kubota motor

.. an update... short block is on its way, $1750 + $175 shipping. Should be here Tuesday...

If the donor machine was 'totaled' vs thoroughly 'destroyed' my concern is but that babbitt-metal lining in crank/cam/BS bearings wasn't melted by extreme heat.

btw, I googled the supplier & found several times as many facebook vs Google reviews (69 vs 9) rating them 4.2 of five vs G's 3.1. I also saw what might be their worst review (yelp), something about confusion of some make/model tractors using different engines/castings. I hardly expect such to be an issue with a Kubota product. :)

Fingers crossed that you're back up and running soon. "You GO, Man!"

One way or the other, this is now a much better story. I wish you the best of luck with this. I much prefer this kind of solution. It just seems to suit my value system of making things work and fixing things instead of dumping cash on new stuff and discarding things of value. Will they take the old block or is the distance to far to mess with it?

The wont want the old block

Great news.
Now document with lots of pictures please.

Once it arrives, there will be pictures

Good luck. Anything used is a pig in a poke. The key is buying from somebody reputable so if something goes sideways there is recourse. Hope it痴 a good置n.

I was assured that if this block wasnt rebuild able or there was issues that they would stand behind it. I know its always a gable with used, but its not like I am buying it used and installing it with no idea what condition things are in. It will be thoroughly inspected and mic'd and if anything is not right it will be corrected or I wont use it

Not concerned about bearings, I'll just replace them. And I'd have a hard time thinking that a fire would do much harm to crank/block/etc. Just too much mass. But thats why everything will be inspected personally by me.

And I dont get hung up on reviews. this place is huge and does a lot of business. Probably thousands upon thousands of parts a year.....dont every hear about the good ones. Only the bad "few". So Im not worried. And even if this block is junk.....as long as I get a refund Im not out anything

Relying on online reviews will ensure that you never buy anything from anyone. So few actually post positive reviews that the entire process is skewed.

LD, Been following this thread from day 1. Glad to hear you now have a course of action. I was about to start looking into how to start a 'Go Fund Me' just so we could get you 'off the dime'.

Good luck with that short block and keep posting your progress. Sounds like you will be busy shortly rather than having to do the frustrating task of researching.

Yep.

But it just boggles my mind how I called them twice looking for an engine for a mx as mine was blown up. Both times they said we don't have anything. Never a mention of "well we don't have a complete engine but...."

I hope to get busy on it. But hope it's as described. It's been a relief to no longer stress about it and spend hours a day researching, calling, and pondering what to do. So I really hope I don't have to start all over with that come tuesday

I am confident they are reputable. You don't stay in business a long time if you screw over everybody. No-one is perfect but online reviews are skewed toward the negative. I just had a transmission rebuilt from a company that is local and been in business at the same location for over 25 years. Same owner. That was good enough for me.

Good luck and keep us updated.
