Blew up Kubota motor

something you said about dealers drilling a hole in the block is probably true.
Last summer, I bought a Kubota diesel Z turn mower.

I managed to put 1.9 hrs on the engine before it blew a head gasket and dumped all coolant out the exhaust.
The dealer told me kubota made them them drill a hole in that block.

I just got off the phone with a friend that deals in A lot of ag equipment.
He told me kubota makes the local Kubota dealer drill a hole in the block of all engines they get in for warranty replacement.
He said because of this, blocks are getting scarce

Thank the EPA for that.

Looks to be repairable to me. Crank needs TLC, possible grinding. Only the rod looks bad, just grind that one for some cost savings. The balance bearings would need to be fitted to the cleaned up bores to see if they fit properly. If fitted OK, then dremel divets on both sides so that bearing can be staked into place to keep from rotating in bore. I would also use as mentioned the correct Loctite bearing mount retainer for added safety. Cylinder bores look good, as well as pistons. Check crankshaft, balanceshaft straightness in block for certain. Balance shaft may clean up, if not it could be welded up and reground to spec. if no reasonable replacement could be found. Would cost some $$$$, but I always like to set the same motor into it's parent equipment if possible. Shame you're so far away. I have a network of engine buddies, crankshaft grinder buddies. We are very good at what we do.

I would consider this long and hard.

A used cheap mx5100 sounds like a workable way to get it fixed.

Used CHEAP good workable engine is the big if. Biggest hurdle is the balance shaft, and the crankshaft.
Both repairable, the block need attention also, but it can be repaired also. The worst balance shaft bearing
surface can either be ground slightly smaller, and a custom bearing shell made on a lathe, or weld built up
and ground to size.

I'm surprised there are no good engine machine shops in the area that can handle this repairable engine.
The sooner it's gotten to, the sooner it would be back into the tractor.

But an update....

Called west ky tractor parts back, and again asked if they had a v2403 turbo engine. They said nope. And no mention of anything else. So I said someone told me they called you and you told them you had a short block.

Long story short....they do.nshould be just about everything less the head is my understanding. And "guaranteed rebuildable" so I asked what that means.

They said they had their mechanics check it out, no spun bearings, scored cylinder walls, pistons good, etc. So I it needs is a overhaul, bearings, rings, seals, etc.

So I asked guaranteed no machine work. No boring or crank grinding. They said correct.

So I asked what the deal with the engine is and why it's not complete? Why it doesn't have a head....

Tractor fire destroyed tractor, electrical components, seals etc. So it couldn't be sold as a runner.

So short block is on its way, $1750 + $175 shipping. Should be here Tuesday.

So maybe I'll come.oit of this under $3k I hope. But I still doubt that they tore it apart and truly checked it out. But hopefully all is good because if not I'm back to square one. But if this was a running mx5100 up until fire....I don't see this being a bad engine

One way or the other, this is now a much better story. I wish you the best of luck with this. I much prefer this kind of solution. It just seems to suit my value system of making things work and fixing things instead of dumping cash on new stuff and discarding things of value. Will they take the old block or is the distance to far to mess with it?

that sounds like a good option and I am sure with the care you exhibit in trying to do the best thing you will end up with a great result - no doubt you will have more skin in this game and be a part of the end product and get the good feeling every time you fire it up and use it once it is repaired. keep us posted as all of us that have been in a similar situation trying to make wise decisions and fix broken things are rooting for you and the outcome!!!!! GO LD1 !!!!!

Good luck. Anything used is a pig in a poke. The key is buying from somebody reputable so if something goes sideways there is recourse. Hope it’s a good’un.
