I bought a jd 320 mower that had hyd deck lift then bought a used hyd snow blade from older jd unit. i have add a loader vavle to operate the plow and we run the hydrostat hoses up to a filter then the loader vavle and on back to the deck control. The first time we started the mower we blow the filter off the housing stuiped me I had the filter housing back ward so today I replaced filter housing again with flow in right direction and mower deck worked fine all ok till I used loader vavle the filter blew apart again. Do I need a bypass around the loader vavle?

From your description you have a filter in the pressure line?

My understanding is the filter is usually in the return line to the reservoir before the pump.

Why the added filter? Isn't there already a filter in the hydro system?

I add the filter because the one that was in the systeme return a had flat o ring fitting that I could not match up the hose to. If I put the filter on the return side should it be after both controls and right before the pump. thanks for your help.

I will admit that you've lost me now. I thought I understood what you were doing, but can't see a reason for adding filter to the 320 hydraulic system just to handle adding a plow.

The mower had steel line that the filter attached to but the all had a flat face o ring fitting that I couldnt t into so the local JD dealer suggested duing away with and going to standard hose. I really think they just didnt want to have to order the fittings.

You can put filters on a pressure line but you can't put a return filter on a pressure line. Pressure filters tend to be quite pricey (both element and housing) so its best to avoid those. Strainers are a decent options for the pressure line.

It sound like the deck valve has a relief valve that is set low enough not to blow the filter and the loader valve has no relief valve or set to high for the filter. Try putting it after the deck valve.

All good advise. Crazy Elf, you do no have a pressure filter. Do not attempt to connect again before the control valve. If seemed to work because there is no pressure until you attempt to operate your hydraulic accessories. You should be able to get the fittings\adaptors you need (assuming cause don't know John Deere) at a hydraulics store.

Not only will the filter not handle the pressure, the filter housing is not rated for that kind of pressure. I hope you have hoses with crimp on fittings and internal steel reinforcement.
