Bone Head Stunts

   / Bone Head Stunts #21
No doubt there are as many "bone head" stunts as posters on this board so here is mine, and just yesterday.
I was mowing/moving items. I was using my come-along to hold things in the loader and when I was done I put the come-along on the rear mower because it was convenient. Bad idea because now the come-along has no hook on the cable anymore. Mower just tore it right off! It was one of those "What the $@#% was that?"/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif Then, not 10 minutes later, I mowed a small log burried in tall grass and shot it out at 100mph into the pond about 100ft.
Moral: don't sharpen the blades before you mow!

Thomas,
Not for a second! I quickly changed the subject by asking her how large she wanted her new garden that I was going to make with the new tractor. That worked./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

We bought an old Massey 245 about 6 years ago. Bought a new Rhino SE-6 mower. First time my son raised the mower, the pto shaft hit the mower deck and bent it. It was probably bent and straightened another dozen times or so during that time. There are a lot of things that tractors will let you do that you didn't intend to do. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

guess these 'botas can't do everything .... my bonehead stunt for the day was trying to avoid a little work. I just repaced my electric fencer and decided that the manual had a point ... the better a gounding system, the better the field and the longer the fencer would last. Went to town, bought 3 ground rods (expensive litttle suckers) amd started "planting them. Started from a stepladder since they're 7-8 ft long ... then had a brainwave (turned out to be a brainf*rt). Go get the tractor, use the bucket to slide the rods into the ground.
It's much harder to use a sledge hammer on bent rods than on straight ones!

too bad that common sense ain't

Wingnut, the next time you put one of those 8' x 5/8" copper ground rods in the ground (I'm assuming that's what you used since that's what we use), try pouring just a little water around it as you work it up and down by hand, gradually pouring a little more water around it as you go. We can usually get them in at least most of the way in that manner without having to do so much hammering.

This isn't a tractor bonehead stunt, and I'm happy to say I didn't do it, but ...a friend of mine was doing her residence at the Mayo Clinic, when on a Sunday morning a patient was brought in with no fingers, just thumbs on both hands. A few missing digits isn't a big deal for those guys, but it is extremely unusual for someone to lose eight at a time. It turns out this guy was trimming his hedges, when he had the idea that he could save time and do a better job by by using his lawnmower. He just put one hand on each side picked it up and started trimming.

The really remarkable thing, even by Mayo Clinic standards, was that later that afternoon they had another case of a person missing the same 8 digits. The second guy said that he was driving home from church when he saw a guy trimming his hedges with a lawnmower, and when he got home he decided to try it for himself!

Wingnut, If you find yourself needing to put ground rods in again, try a hammer drill. After doing the same thing you did an electrician showed me the easy way.

Heck ya ma I'm gunnu cut those darn hedges oncedd and fer awl IIs gots me a great new idea fer a trimmer.
That is a great case of dumb and dumber what a shame the man should have mounted handles to the mower first and of course used a two-stroke mower.
