Boom Pole from TSC - Any Good??

I keep mine on the tractor most of the time. I use it to lift the chain harrow for working my driveway. I can hook up in less than a minute. I paid $99 for the boom which is a lot less than buying a harrow lift rack.

I have the TSC boom pole and can tell you that I have exceeded the 500 pound rating with no problems at all. I lifted a 700 pound tiller out of a trailer and it didn't seem to be under any excessive strain.

That's exactly what I did with mine. Bought my 5" KKII tiller at TSC, then thought "how in blazes will I lift that thing off the trailer with the FEL - not enough reach without risking hitting the trailer. And no bucket hooks at the time. So I got the boom pole and what the heck - threw in the subsoiler that was on sale just to max out my 4x6 trailer. The Ford Focus made it's dissatisfaction with the whole arrangement known on the first hill. It's also hauled some firewood.

Looks like I'm gonna buy one then.
I borrow one from my neighbor from time to time.
But I hate to borrow tools and equipment.
I've used his for all sorts of jobs around the yard.
Really comes in handy enough to justify buying one.

I bought one today from local Co-Op, King Kutter rated at 2000#, price $236.00 + tax. Looks really heavy duty 3" square 1/4" wall tubing. Was surprised at the price, expected it to cost more. (that is the first time I think I ever said that).

Last used mine on 8n to unload 495lb tiller. it was a load for the tractor..

I got it. I think i used a $10 off coupon with it or something. I dont have a FEL and it does everything i would lift with a fel. I have lifted 8ft long oak logs 1-3 at a time anywhere from 8-14" in diameter (well i only lifted the ends) and skidded them off my trailer. I have loaded a tiller a few times, 4fter JD model! have hooked to bushes and pulled them out of the ground. But my yanmar will lift the front off the ground long before i tear up that BP. Its worth the $$.

The last thing i did was to flip my bushhog over to work on it.

You could easily make a simple boom pole like this.

If your bucket has bucket hooks, then weld a 2 in receiver to the inside bottom of the bucket. It doesn't affect anything by being there. Cut an 8 ft or whatever length 2 x 2 x 1/4 in wall, and drill a 5/8 in hole in the boom pole to lock it in place at the bucket end. Then weld a 2 in receiver on the lifting end of the boom. Weld two chain hooks to the top of the 2 in receiver. To use the boom, install the boom pole, and attach a chain to each chain hook. Should be tight as possible. You can plug anything in the end of the receiver to aid you in what you are doing, from using a grab hook, a D ring, or whatever will work in a 2 in receiver. Cheap and downright simple. Easy to store also.

If you want to stiffen the boom up some, weld a tension rod on the top of the boom, with about a 4 in rise in the middle.
