Im just still hung up on what all they could have done to that tractor. I looked one time and had a guy tell me, but im thinking that they have between $2500 and $3k per tractor in them when they buy them and then i just dont see how they can rebuild them and make any profit at that price.
Thats just where my scepticism comes from. Heck even if they get them for $1500K and put $1k into them in parts and another $700 into them i guess that gets them to where they need to be but there not that cheap even buying a container at the time i dont think.

battery $40 wholesale
pistons and rings for three, $150
bearings $40
radiator $250
fuel pump
water pump $95
voltage reg $90
shifter kit $50
PTO seals $20
gasket set (head) $40
brakes $100
seat $60
wheel bears seals $100
blast and paint. $200
hoses $50
new tires $400

Looks like 2K at most for rebuild.
so if they got it for 2K they made $600 each.
That's more than you car dealer made on 55K truck.

Seems very real to me....I'm standing hear looking at the new parts...Those tires are real, the voltage reg. is new, the radiator is new the hoses are new the battery is new, all the small parts are new, and cadmium plated, looks like every bolt and screw has been replaced with SS or cadmium plated stuff. Sounds like you should just put down you pencil and paper and buy one.

Thats without figuring their labor to pay a mechanic his wadges, right? Not really trying to start an argument but i would have to argue that the Ford dealer sells more new fords each day than RCO does tractors. And also having several friends that sold or still sell cars they really make the real money on used cars where they steal them at trade and put maybe tires on them and brakes etc and oil and sell them for twice what they paid oftem making several K each unit sold.

Anyway i have a yanmar, which is the reason i try and give advice have so many posts and also list it in my signature line.

Nice tractor anyway, keep posting of all the cool stuff you do.

RCO has a rep. in Japan to select tractors for them. Have you been to the sites in Japan where these tractors are sold? There are dozens of acres of Yanmars, thousands of tractor sitting waiting to be sold. I have heard that there is a big tax break for the Japanese owner to buy new rather than keep their tractor or buy used. So no used market in Japan, all the used tractors are leaving country. Anyway its a big market, nothing to stop someone from going to Japan to one of the large sales sites, picking one out and sending it to yourself at home. Could be like cars to, less profit in smaller, more profit in larger. The 1610 is highly desirable but only 19.5hp.

It may be the same law that forces folks over there to buy new cars its the Shaken law and cars are subject to inspection every 3 years and the penalty's are ridiculous high there isn't a used market they are crushed or exported in pieces.

With that said I read the post with the prices HS and I seriously dont see how anyone can make any money rebuilding one of these either even if they did them personally it shouldn't be enough? my 2c

I have seen a few of the sites in Japan and I just happened to be looking @ 1610d's for a friend and $2000 is about what the 1610D's go for plus freight from what I was able to gather. I imagine the 2wd would go 500-750 less just a guess?

Just for conversation and not starting an argument either I am not saying they aren't making money but it cant be much. IMHO that is probably why they miss certain things when doing these rebuilds- there isn't any choice use slave labor or cheap parts or overlook the big ticket items or all the above jmho.

And dont get me wrong I like your tractor it looks sweet and I am sure it will last a lifetime so dont take offense please. :)

The $2000 for a 1610-D days were over 2 years ago as the dollar fell....

The YEN is down to 80 to the dollar today, and has benn in the 80s for almost 2 years.
Not only that, but the $2000 1610s were not in that great of shape, which makes them hard to sell, they were grade B machines, which required a lot of reconditioning.
That's why there are vietcong rebuilds out there.

We all agree here they (RCO) have to be making money or else they would not still be around, unless they are wealthy and too stupid to realize there not yet.

My point and not trying to get into it or hope you dont take offense is that they told Car Doc certain things were done and when he dissasembled them it was clear to a trained eye that they wernt or done very quickly. This is the problem i fear they are telling folks things and you may or may not be getting that depending on your tractors original condition.

And yess i was looking at prices a yr or so ago maybe less at importers sites. I would agree with the $2k mark but then like mentioned you must ship it here, my guess is that would cost you at least $1k to get and i have no idea about fees etc for customs and port. Just think how much it would cost to truck a tractor across the US, even if piggi-backed with 4 others.
