1980 ford 3600 rusty.jpg

Not sure why I bought this one. :) Actually if we leave the one arm loader on the 3000 this one may be our go to for finish mowing because the 3000 is going to be more for show.

We are going to call it Rusty. Actually the motor starts up and sounds awesome to me and with the tractor off the lift would hold up the 5' bush hog without any noticeable seepage 10-15 minutes later. The owner of the last 32 years bought it from the first owner when it was 5 years old. The tach is working and showing 2300 hours and I was told those are its true hours. The brake back plates show some surface rust but at least they are NOT leaking fluid like the 2600 was on the right rear wheel meaning no brake on that side. Actually the sheet metal is very straight for the most part. The power steering control must be leaking some because it is black but nothing is dripping or spraying. The roll bar and single spool controller where added from the owner's brother tractor.

The oil reportedly has been changed every 100 hours and the UTF has been changed out 3 times and the last time was within the last 100 hours of use. The 15W-40 Rotella (oil used last 32 years) looks relative clean.

On the 2600 the guy like to have never got it to start and it ran awful but did smooth out in about 30 minutes but never would take the gas without a hesitation. Brought back bad carb memories but having to dry up the rear seals leaks for the new 40 years just did not appeal to me.

At least I have a project tractor that it will be hard to hurt its looks. :)

Thanks.

Last night I order some first step parts like the seals on the shift plate that let it water before the owner discovered it and changed it out and started parking it with a 5 gallon bucket over the levers. I will break this out into a new thread since this will be a long endeavor.

With this beater tractor I am going to keep the 1966 3000 out of rough stuff especially after we get the 711 FEL mounted. Its main selling point was both brake back plates are also RUSTY unlike the 2600 (with leaking rear wheel seal) that I pulled the trailer 250 miles to buy and bring back home. $3500 buy in price was a plus for the low hour tractor too.

Ok so let us know what the new thread is as I like to follow what you are doing with these tractors. Thanks

Question for the One Arm Loader Guys. - Yesterday's Tractors

Since we are adding the Ford 711 One Arm FEL and there has been input by others here is a tid bit I accidently found this morning about the 711 dump and curl cylinder. I will paste it below should some day it not be found at the address above.

"We had this discussion recently. The 711 loader includes both the trip lever and hydraulic dump buckets and runs off the tractor's hydraulics. The 722 loader has an internal reservoir and is run off of a front mount pump.
I'm away from home where my 711 manual is located but I know that the manual says that you have to acquire your own cylinder for the dump system. It suggests using the same cylinder that you use for your hydraulic top link or the cylinder that you use to raise wheeled implements. The cylinder to raise the arm was included with the loader from Ford and the cylinder on DonCam's loader is the Ford cylinder. Since Ford did not supply the dump cylinder there is no "correct" cylinder for it."

Back to the 3000 I ran into a short neck fuel tank issue on the one I got from Yesterday's Tractors. The new one is about 2" and the old one was like 3.25". While ours seems to be a 3000 the long necks seemed to have been used on 3400 and 4410 Ford tractors per Ford parts manual at Messick's site. Parts numbers seem to be E3NN9002AB for the 2" neck and C5NN9002AD for the 3.25" neck that is not readily available. Messick's said the last one they found was $350+

We are going with Ultradog MN post from 16 April 2013 Yesterday's Tractors forum and just move the old 3" neck to the new tank after we remove the 2" neck in a way to give us the same height.

The tank mounted perfectly but the fuel cap connection was too low to get the cap on our 1966 3000 with the louvers in the hood. It looks like a perfect fit for the 1980 3600 however. In hindsight checking into repairing the old one may be the first thing I will consider. :)

1966 3000 restore right side.jpg

1966 3000 retore left side.jpg

These are two shots from today the right side shot is mainly so I have it after the skin goes back on. The left side shows the new tank modified filler neck and the hip joint for the 711 one arm loader now bolted to the tractor. We are having to make a new front mounting bracket since the shape of the one that came with my loader clearly is not going to fit right.

The guy is rattle can painting his way out. The entire power steering steering column has been gone through with new bearings, seals and bushings and reported to be working fine with one finger. The tank is new as are the three injector lines and injectors and plastic lines back to the fuel tank. He wanted to get this area touched up so whenever we repaint the tractor everything under the skin will not have to be sprayed.

We replaced the OEM single spool valve with an OEM double spool valve that was painted NEW Ford blue which stands out now as you can see under the seat in the left side shot.

The valves were all on the loose side before adjusting them and it has a new valve cover gasket and the power steering filter that is under the no opening side of the hood has been replaced with a new lid gasket as well. The oil filter was changed by us before we took it to the shop.

711 ford loader belly straps.jpg

Tonight I cleaned this 711 belly strap going on the 1966 Ford 3000 diesel and coated it with Skyco OSPHO, Rust-Oleum gray implement prime and a TSC knock off of the 1965-1999 old Ford blue that is not a bad match but a bit brighter.
