It was almost spur of the moment - - I went to Home Depot with my wife today & noticed they had a 27-ton Yard Machine for $900. It has a Honda 5.5 engine, but was reconditioned. I guess that does qualify for spur of the moment.

Anyone else have one of these? They did not have an owners manual for it. Hope I didn't do a stupid thing. I've looked on line for the owners manual, but no luck so far - - any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jack

Yes, Tdog, I have one just like it, except that I have a 6.5 hp Techumseh engine. I bought mine slightly used on eBay and picked it up in NY. I have split about 150 cords with mine and had almost no problems. I had to buy the small casting that holds the actuator handle on, as mine had a big void in the middle of it and it eventually broke. Otherwise flawless. I haul mine around behind the tractor and use the FEL and logging chain to move logs. Oh, and mine came with two manuals... one for the splitter and one for the engine.

You shouldn't have mentioned anything about this... Now you have myriads of TBN members who want to borrow it :)

Thanks for the link Willl. Found the manual.

Dang, I learned that thing holds a lot of hydraulic fluid. I haven't started the splitter yet - - the hydraulic fluid was low - - did not eve reach the bottom of the dipstick. I had a couple of quarts of Dextron III around & added them. Still does not reach the dipstick. Guess I'll go out tomorrow & buy a few more quarts.

Just a follow-up. I found Dextron in gallon containers & bought a couple. I added & added fluid without it registering on the dipstick. Finally got to the right level after 1 entire gal. + a little from the 2nd gal. container. Add that to the 2.5 quarts I added yesterday & that makes almost 2 gallons.

The good news is that it started on the 1st pull. I ran the wedge through a few cycles, shut it off & checked the fluid again - - & yes, it needed more fluid.

Glad I didn't try to run it before I checked the hydro level. The manual says it holds 3.5 gal., btw.
