This is my TSC 6 foot box blade,, that I collapsed the top link support,,,, TWICE !!

The first rebuild, I simply made the steel 1/8" thicker,,, (3/8" to 1/2")
The second rebuild, I made the steel 1/2" wider as well as thicker.
Also, I added the doublers where the lower link pins bolt on,, they bent the second time.

Both rebuilds, I tried to match the dimensions and angle locations.
Both times I collapsed the top link support (the black parts) I was going backwards.
The box hit an obstruction (rock, or stump?), the parts collapsed so easily, I did not know it happened.

When I looked back,,, the box was at a weird angle,,,,

NOW,, I only use the box blade going forward. The box simply jumps up if something is hit.

EDIT!! I just looked at the TSC box blade,,, I may have made the parts a full inch wider!! :confused2:

A bent strap, in compression, isn't very strong. :(

I agree^^^ and when the rippers hang up the rear bent braces would be in compression when traveling forward. rotation about the lower link pins would put a lot of compressive force against the top link. Not a good use for flat bar stock. Welded tubing would be a better choice.

I remember that offer too. Apparently, Catman would rather keep it and b!tch about it than get his money back and go buy something else.

Apparently, If you don't know the whole story maybe you should keep your nose out of it.

You can look at the age of my box blade,,, 15 years, at least,,,
Surprisingly,,, they are still built the same.

My box blade does not have more than 20 hours of use,,,
If smaller,, I would use it as a door stop.

I did use it last fall during heavy rain,, I diverted some water back into a ditch,
by simply setting it there,,, it was great for that.

I believe it would be great behind an under-35HP tractor,,,
Everything other than the top link support is MUCH stronger than the 35HP rating.
I use a landplane now.

That is a VERY POORLY DESIGNED box blade!
TSC = Tarter Gate supplier?
I just wonder where they found the engineer who decided that flat stock material was suitable.
Pushing a blade built like that (with flat stock) is like pushing spaghetti.

Yes it is an old design that never was any good. I would get rid of it and buy something else. My small Cammond 48 " box blade is a much better design for a low cost unit. I definitely prefer the Woods Gannon industrial box blade I have for the bigger jobs over anything else I have used so far. Cammond copied the better design of the Gannon mast imo, they could have chosen worse.

A couple quick, easy braces added would multiply it's strength several times over.

That's what I was just thinking also. I had to modify mine slightly to work with my quick hitch. When I did I added some flat plate on the top of the two braces that go to the back of the blade. So far I've been pretty happy with my TSC blade. But I don't have a 40 hp tractor either.

I have the everthing attachments extreme duty and I like it. it is rugged and well made. can't say the same for some of the land pride stuff I have seen. Don't know about Woods.
