Thanks for the pics and taking time to "eyeball" your setup, in addition to your responses. I think I'll be modifying my Keen Kutter! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm trying to "think through" this whole lift/tilt/angle thing, because one of my "chores" will likely be smoothing down the freshly dozed road banks and getting them in good enough shape to sow some fescue seed to help prevent erosion. So, the ability to reach up onto the bank and drag down would be important...

I'm not ready to go buy a 4-in-1, having just bought a grapple bucket for clearing work and the minihoe for ditching. I'm sure I could do some of this smoothing with the mini-hoe, but it would be SLOW going...

Let's see if these pics help. I went out and set up these quickies. They're not very good but should illustrate the range of motion I have with the QA mounted about 20 degrees back from vertical.

This first one shows the box blade at normal level grading position.

And now rotated back as far as it will go.

Now raised high to show how the tilt increases with height ie - up the bank?

And finally a pic showing the box blade resting on the embankment before it. This is about as steep as I could grade pulling down the bank. Normally I do that operation with the landscape rake. In this case I roughed out that bank a coupla months ago by traversing it the long way, and dragged the fill off to rough in a woodsroad a couple hundred feet behind the photographer (me :). The project got put on a long hold when Ma Snapper came by and deposited her eggs right smack in the middle of my work. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Anyway, it looks like you could mount the QA plate at a much greater angle than I have mine, say 35 or 40 degrees from vertical, and end up with a better pull-down-the-bank angle and still have enough tilt the other way.

Wow! That was a great help! Thanks so much for going out and taking pics just to address my questions...

I think I agree that I can "tilt" the QA plate closer to 30-45% or so, and still get the range of motion that I'll need. I'll have to look closer at my boxblade, but I think I can loosen and tilt the existing 3-pt hitch setup backward, then shorten the reinforcing bars that run back to the back of the box -- my 3-pt setup isn't welded like your heavier-duty blade. (This blade weighs just under 300 lbs.)

( Still trying to decide between the 425 or 1430 or some other CUT.)

I don't know what jobs you plan to use your Power Trac for, but with only 3 acres, it would seem that a PT-1430 would be too much of a good thing! I'm trying to visualize what a homeowner would want to do that a PT-425 couldn't handle!!

I have 10 mostly wooded acres, and a PT-425. In less than 1-1/2 years I have:
Prepared a 60'x70' building site from a hillside.
Dug 160' of utility trenches 30" deep with MiniHoe.
Cut ~800' of edging trenches 6" deep with Stump Grinder.
Built new 120' scenic driveway through virgin woods.
Spread gravel on ~800' of driveway.
Cleared and burned ~4 acres of ice storm felled trees and branches with PT Grapple Bucket.
Built and maintain ~1/4 mile of hiking trails with Brush Mower.
Removed old sod and installed new lawn.
Removed ~40 stumps with Stump Grinder.
Spread ~15,000# of mulch.
Planted ~40 trees and shrubs with Stump Grinder.
Installed ~35' of brick paved paths.
Plowed 20'x40' garden with Potato Digger.
Loaded pallets into the back of a tractor trailer.

I even installed a
FlagWave.gif
on my front porch!!

PS: What 'some other CUT' could do all these jobs with the ease, speed, safety, efficiency, and FUN of a PT-425????

I also use Linux (Suse) and have no problems with the photos on babineau's site.
