Keep in mind though.. it does not screw intot he block.. but rather is on that sheetmetal cover atop the head.. that nomenclature difference makes a discussion harder to follow when trying to hash out details such as this.

post some pics of that machine when you get a chance.. we like to see pics here.

Of coarse everything you mentioned is correct, now that I'm home and
don't have to work from memory.... :D

Including the two access panels behind the carb on my 8N! I can't
believe I never noticed those...

I'll get around to some pics this weekend.

I just started reading my owners manual and just realized I didn't pick
up a key with the tractor... lol

Is it easy to wire around it or should I go back to the barn and look for it?

Maybe just get a new key assembly...

New key assy is about 9$ or so... If you don't have any kids.. a toggle switch also works.. etc. For the time being, you can just jumper around the key if you need to move her.. etc.

perhaps the prev. owner could mail you the key?

I believe they still live in the same house as the father did...

I'll send my wife over there to look around. It must be in the house somewhere. It would be neat to have the original key.

I'll just jumper around it for now, when it gets to that point.

With the steering being out it my 8N, I may need to get the Tiger up faster
than I would have liked.

First thing I need to know is if the system is still 6V, will it hurt the starter
to change over to 12V?

or anything else for that matter?

The 6v starter and solenoid run fine on 12v as long as you don't wail on them. it will have a 6v coil, and yoy can add in a 5$ resistor and make it work as is.. or you can put in a 15$ new coil.. which is the preferable route ... a NAP IC14SB is a good 12v coil... with that you won't need any resistors.

You can use the same make points and condensor.. etc.

All these should fit:

Side-Mount Distributor:
Points:
NAPA #CS749
NAPA HEAVY DUTY PIERCED (ventilated) #CS753
Standard Ignition #FD-8081
Standard Ignition Blue Streak #FD-8081X (Premium)
Condensor:
NAPA #FA66
Standard Ignition #FD-75
Standard Ignition Blue Streak #FD75X (Premium)
Rotor:
NAPA #FA67
Standard Ignition #FD-108
Distributor Cap:
NAPA #FA352
Standard Ignition #FD-128

Or you can use the cheaper tisco set that TSC sells for? 5$.. or ge tthe tuneup master kit from TSC ( tisco parts ).. yeah.. the points are a lil cheaper with a black plastic rubbing block vs the nylon block on the bluestreak.. but whatever you can afford will work. Remember to put a bbsize dot of grease ont he leading edge of the points rubbing block so that as it rides the distribuitor can, it lubes it.. This will be critical especially with the tisco points... if you want long point life. Also pull a piece of clean white paper thru the points contacts after instalation and gapping ( .025 ).. this removes any manufacturing debri and oils that will make your points burn..

Thanks so much for the data... In I go.

I'm having a shop just come and get the 8N. Too much work for me.
I need it back in service quickly.
