You won't even have to 'bypass' any wireing to install the gm-delco alternator.. you simply won't use any o f the wireing from the old reg ( reg to genny ).
To install the gm alternator, you will need to purchase or make the brackets to install it to the block. there are commonly available tisco as well as ford brackets to make this conversion.. then you will want the 3-wire version of the alternator. It will have 3 connections.. charge stud, and (2) spade terminals marked 1 & 2.. Make a short jumper and jump #2 down to the charge stud. Connect the charge stud tot he bat wire that had run to the old regulator.. you can now remove the old regulator. Run a wire from the #1 spade terminal to the switched ( coil ) side of the ignition switch, inline with this wire, place a 194 marker lamp.. like a trailer marker. Many people like these as they have a wire pigtail for easy wireing, and some mount them on the dash. This will function like an idiot lamp.. IE.. when yuo turn the key on, the lamp will glow, after you start the tractor and bring the engine speed up to about 300-400 rpm, the lamp will go out as the alternator starts charging. As with a car, if you see the lamp come on, you know you are not charging. Alternately you can place a diode inline.. radio shack carries meny that will fit. Anything 1A/50PIV or better will work.. though something like 3A/200PIV is more ideal. i ahve had good luck with 1N5408 diodes. Radio shack 276-1141 and 276-1661 will work. The diode has a strip on one end.. connect that end facing the alternator...
Now.. if your alternator does not hav ethe correct pulley for your tractor.. you will have to trade it out.

Since you had no genny to begin with.. you could locate a genny and reg for an 01 series diesel and install it. It will install inthe same place as the 00 series genny.. look the same.. etc... That would be my choice, if it wasn't to expensive.. all depends on what yuo can find the genny for. Unfortunately, the alternator will probably be cheaper.. even with buying the brackets.. look around though...
Do you still have the oem genny mount bracket attached?
