Broken F150

All my vehicles get washed weekly as a minimum. That one got washed Saturday.

Chris

My Honda Accord was washed in 2011 I think. My truck probably 2009. No need to wash vehicles or even have an nice one where I live. If it ain't mud it is dust. Right now it is mud, almost get stuck on my driveway, and it supposed to rain 5 out of the next 7 days.

I would be mad as a hornet if I had to buy a part at 56K miles . Lucky it wasn't $840 instead of $84.

As you all know I'm partial to Ford's and here is why. I have had them all including 4 GM's, 1 Nissan, 1 Toyota, 1 Dodge, 1 BMW, 1 Lexus, and we'll over 15 Ford's now. My average trade in is 5 years old and 120,000 miles.

Yesterday I was coming home from work and the blower motor on my 2012 F150 Ecoboost would not work. It has 56,000 miles. I got home and did some research on the net and found out 99.9% of the time it's the control module. I checked the relay and fuse and both were fine.

After calling 3 dealers I found one in stock. All the other dealers could have it by noon the next day. I stopped on my way to work at a dealer about 5 miles out of my way and picked it up, cost $82.

It took all of 5 minutes to replace. Open the glove box, drop the door by pressing two tabs, and there it is. 2 8 mm screws held it in and a wiring harness. The old one was black pictured on the hood and the new one is white pictured inside the dash.

So yes, Ford's do break! But consider this. Since 1997 I have owned a 1997 F150, a 1999 F150, a 1999 F350, a 2001 F150, a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer, a 2004 F250, a 2005 Mercury Milan, a 2006 F350 (still have with 128,000 miles) a 2007 F150, this 2012 F150 (with 56,000 miles) , and a 2013 Edge (with 63,000 miles) and this is only the SECOND unscheduled repair made. The other being my 2006 F350 needing a dash cluster due to a faulty fuel gauge.

Chris

120K miles? I wouldn't expect any problems at that mileage - barely broke in.

Wow .............once again a few people challenge a persons statements about Fords and their posts are trashed........ meanwhile trashing other brands is welcomed by the moderators. Maybe the moderators should spend some time in the friendly politics TBN forum where outright anti semitism is allowed without trashing the posts.

Very inconsistent thread moderation here at TBN

Be careful Alan...........some Ford owners are quite protective of their rides, they have time to wash them twice a week and once on Sunday, they pull the trailer hitch balls out of the receivers five minutes after they use their trailers and they do the maintenance 20,000 miles before it is scheduled. If you are suggesting to them that is not normal you risk having your posts reported and trashed.

Good tip.

Chris

I don't drive anything that has a CA filter at the moment, but before this thread gets shut-down, I'll pass along this story....

A friend of mine works at a parts store. Some time back, a regular customer of their's was "providing feedback" (aka, whining) about the quality of the after-market heater blower motors they provided, after having several replacements fail. Growing a little tired of the "feedback" being provided, they finally convinced him to check his CA filters.

He came back 2 days later with a sheepish apology, and an order for a stack of CA filters. The old ones held enough dirt to start a terrarium store with.

If I'm considering a vehicle, I check Wix, Fram, or Purolator sites, to see if a CA filter is listed. There are some 10 y/o vehicles driving around, with the original filter still installed.

Rgds, D.

I didn't really see any brand bashing in this thread. In fact it all looked fairly civil to me. Just some guys comparing experiences.
Then wawa comes along, attempting poke, prod and change the tone. It's a fairly regular thing with you. You're not a Ford fan. People get that. You saw the title of the thread, why come and try to denigrate it?
Don't agree with the moderation? Easy enough to fix.

I don't hate Fords, matter of fact I would love a newer or older Mustang , but I do dislike exaggerations in posts or off the cuff statistics (like 60% of GM's have headlight burn't out) or missinformation about taxpayers in a persons avatar.

But us Dodge or GM owners are not allowed to defend our brands regarding this missinformation ........hmmm

Chris,
My 2005 f150 had the similar issue, worked on two of the settings, replaced the resistor from NAPA, works like a champ !!!

DP, I've seen people that have what most people would say is good luck with a truck, like you have but after having a couple of minor problems, they will call them "junk".

I replaced the similar part on my daughters Impala, and it took a little longer, it wasn't so easy to get at.
