I didn't really see any brand bashing in this thread. In fact it all looked fairly civil to me. Just some guys comparing experiences. Then wawa comes along, attempting poke, prod and change the tone. It's a fairly regular thing with you. You're not a Ford fan. People get that. You saw the title of the thread, why come and try to denigrate it? Don't agree with the moderation? Easy enough to fix.

DP, I've seen people that have what most people would say is good luck with a truck, like you have but after having a couple of minor problems, they will call them "junk". I replaced the similar part on my daughters Impala, and it took a little longer, it wasn't so easy to get at.


If a vehicle gets to needing something small like this say every few months I would call it junk also. My last Saturn was that way. Just nickel and dime stuff but was always something. To me it's time to part ways. I need a vehicle that is reliable. Being a corporate pilot most of my days start at 4:30 am and I'm coming home in the dark the 12 to 15 days a month I fly. Those other days I'm doing my side gig with boats which might mean driving 250 miles to pick something up. Last thing I want to worry about is my vehicle when I have this much on my plate.

Well most have important jobs and lots on our plates that require reliable vehicles. My wife as a VON nurse in the 1995-2005 's needed a reliable vehicle a decades or two back and we went with a used 1993 Saturn............one of the best vehicles we had , and except for the pain in the neck seat belt on motorized track catching you off guard at times , it was extremely pleasant reliable GM vehicle.(used a bit of oil) We got it to 240,000 before our daughter smucked it. ...and both headlights always worked too !!

My 96 Saturn was very reliable. The 99 not so much. I bet I put 25 parts on that vehicle in 2 years.

So yes, Ford's do break! But consider this. Since 1997 I have owned a 1997 F150, a 1999 F150, a 1999 F350, a 2001 F150, a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer, a 2004 F250, a 2005 Mercury Milan, a 2006 F350 (still have with 128,000 miles) a 2007 F150, this 2012 F150 (with 56,000 miles) , and a 2013 Edge (with 63,000 miles) and this is only the SECOND unscheduled repair made. The other being my 2006 F350 needing a dash cluster due to a faulty fuel gauge.

2005 Chevrolet Express 2500. 142,000 miles. We have had a repair - idler pulley for serpentine belt got noisy. And it gets almost 2mpg better mileage than the E250 it replaced.

The Ford Transit Connect we have hasn't been bad but just had the front axles replaced at 114,000 miles. We are getting a new Ford Transit van, hope it is as good as the Chevy.....

Yes. 95% of the time they short out to HIGH only. Mine was the other 5% and did not work at all but could see the little bars for the fan speed raise and lower on the dash as I pressed the fan + and - button.

They have two different modules. Mine has dual zone climate control so it used the module I got, which is the most expensive. The other type is for the old school style that has maybe 4 fan speeds on a rotary dial. It's about half the price.

With Ford if you take the last 8 of the VIN they can pull the vehicles build sheet and take the guess work out of it.

That resistor is a common failure on Ford's. I've replaced them on Ranger's and many Focus'. Never had to on trucks...yet. At least they are really easy to get to and cheap parts.

I loooove my 1996 F150 4x4. 6 cylinder, fully manual. Problem is it is rusting badly and I fear will soon not be road worthy. That said the drive train is really strong, shifts smooth and doesn't leak /burn oil. I wish I could buy another. I sometimes check the want ads is the dry states out west hoping to find a rust free replacement.

I think I can call myself a Ford fan but only had a few. Bought a 69 Mustang sportsroof when I was younger. Rode it hard and put it up wet. Then a early Bronco came my way and I used that as a DD and hunting truck for a few years. I have a 99 Mustang GT I used for a DD for a few years, dedicated it to a road course track day and autocross car for a few, and now it's a part time DD again. Also have a 03 F150 that is my usual DD but doubles as a tow vehicle. Use to tow the Mustang to the track on an open car hauler and now the race car. Oh and I have a Late Model Stockcar that came with bow tie engine mounts I sawed off so I could put a 351W in it. :)

Very few repairs outside of normal maintenance on any of them.

Bite. I assume the post about the V6 was regarding the 4.2L Canadian 90 degree V6. That engine with 90s vintage F150 would make a GREAT weekend pickup, light hauler, parts and grocery getter. Cup of coffee, windows down, dog in the front seat, get your errands done early on Saturday morning, runs forever, lovin' life, wind in tbe hair (singular follicle) kinda truck. I've always kept my eye out for one of those.

I had a 2002 F150, reg. cab 4.2 V6 with a 5 speed. Great truck. Put 60k miles on it in the 2 years I had it. Sold it to a local policeman and he is still driving it. Had 0 issues with it. Crank windows, regular locks, cruise control and c/d player. The bench seat was a little stiff, but otherwise a fun truck to drive.
