Re: Brush Hogging Basics... Another Online Video

Looks like a beefy unit. My mesely 36HP isn't enough even for the 6 footer though, but I wonder how they are priced?

You can use a chain saw on these small ~ 5” and cluster of saplings… but then you still have to dispose the debris…

By backing up, with the cutter in the highest position, use the weight of the cutter to bend/compress the tree and start cutting (slowly...), while also slowly backing the cutter into the tree (keep the tree with tractor pressure in the other direction)
(This 7' cutter without chains is ~~ 1400 lbs.)

Re: Brush Hogging Basics... Tree Removal

John, that PTO shaft looks pretty close to the deck of the cutter when the deck is fully raised. Or is that just the angle of the picture?

BTW, that's how I handle bushes and other small yard debris. Back in, slowly lower, when the banging stops, you're done. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hi Mike,

I forgot my clearance, but it's about 3 - 5" with the top link in my lowest position... If I move the top link higher, I can of course raise the cutter much higher and the clearance reduces but still is ok...

Re: Brush Hogging Basics... Tree Removal

A farmer friend of mine calls that ' crayfishin' '. I plan to use it to clear out my multifloral rose. He said to be careful b/c he screwed up his PTO hydraulics. I think it was due to an incorrect PTO shaft length though.
