Bucket hooks

I thought I was the only one who's imagination began racing while trying to visualize the incident.

Dang right -- and it's a lot cheaper than adding a full fledged grapple to the bucket as well. Interestingly enough the bucket that came with my Kubota actually had a lip on the back of the bucket which has served as an impromptu place to hook a chain a time or two. Not quite as nice as having hooks on the bucket, but it's worked for retaining lighter stuff.
In some ways it seems the biggest downside to all the safety features built into modern products is that so many user's seemingly proceed to disengage their brains and assume they'll be "safe" no matter what they do. Personally I'm of the opinion that it's safer to do something risky that you've actually thought through and determined a suitably safe way of doing it, than just going about doing things relying on safety features that were designed/built by someone who's not there.
Call me old fashion, but I prefer my safety to ultimately be my responsibility and while I may appreciate the assistance I'm not going to hand off that responsibility. ...seen/heard enough where people were blindly pushing things for "safety" reasons that would have increased the danger/risks because of something unique to the situation.

The Jerk managed to mangle himself other ways, I assure you. Yes it was a ZERK, but those can often be Jerks too.

Works best if the gears are nice and greasy.
Trust me. No such thing as a good idea. Just some things tht actually turned out well, in the end.
I put hooks on my loader bucket a quarter of a century ago. And I guess, that idea was had long before I was born.
AND, I do stuff like this:

Just a D ring inside the upper part of the bucket. Top of the Massey bucket has a lip that could be used for light work.

Here’s what I did to mine a couple years ago. Welded a 3/4” thick flat plate to the top for support. The clevis can be installed backwards and is out of the way. I use it for chaining tractor to trailer mostly.

Wow, I did not know tow hooks are such a bad idea, ha.........
So I know our tractors can hurt/kill you, but I was unaware of the dangerous tow hook.......
I guess I have been guilty for about 9 years, of installing 2 bolt on HF Tow Hooks on the top of each side of the loader bucket, and 1 bolt on HF Tow Hook installed high on the backside of the Backhoe Bucket.
I also installed a HF bolt on Step Bumper Receiver in between the loader bucket tow hooks that has a pinned slide in receiver with a large D-Ring Shackle attached out the front of it.
They sure make things a little more easy from time to time and are very handy indeed......
I will be extra careful in the future while using my tow hooks?
