Building dollies with wood pallets and casters

A couple of things. Two types of pallets-returnable and throwaway, choose accordingly. Personally, I don't trust somebody else's wood to wood attachment engineering or nailing skills so do inspect carefully and add fasteners and structural members if necessary.
Wheels-figure your attachment's weight and multiply by 1.5 then select at least four wheels that have loads equal or better than that number.
Wheels- larger diameters are better regarding mobility of the mass.
I have wheeled dollies for my woodsplitter, wood chipper, 7' York rake and the Woods BH90-X backhoe, none of which are pallet platformed and my wheels range from 5" to 9", the 9'' wheels under the BH are still difficult to turn (they do roll well) so I use a floor jack for lifting and repositioning wheel(s). As your implements get heavier, build in clearance for a floor jack.

We burn wood pellets and handle 5-10 tons a year. I bought used pallet jacks on Craigslist for 150 to 200 dollars. Now everything (3 pt attachments, tools, christmas decorations) is on pallets. I can stack the pallets tight for storage and easily move them when needed. We have a walk out basement so I added a concrete pad outside the cellar doors so that I can move pallets in or out of the cellar easily.

Some time you will need to swap 3 pt attachments in the field. That is where extendable links or EZ hitch come into play. Different tools for different jobs.

Here's how my pallet dollies work.

Your second picture is close to what I do, furniture dollies from Harbor Freight, but I tie them together with a couple of 2x4s. It's about the same cost as casters, they can be custom fit to the implement so you don't waste a lot of space because of the pallet size.

That's what I use too...furniture dollys from harborfeight. $12 each on sale. scrap 2 X 12 ties them together and I put my box scraper on top.
