gordon,
Would that be John Deere 644 loader, and if so its rare to see one painted green not unless its military in this area.

I hope the next picture not a Cat D8 stuck. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Re: We want pictures!-Bobcat+loader Stuck

The operator ran out to an island to check on what timber was there. He was riding around in the heat goofing off more like it. But instead of going back the way he came out he ran through where grass was sticking up through the ice. You boys from up north know to stay away from ice if there is grass coming up through it. It's unsafe at best.

He left the machine there and called on the phone to the head of the crew and told them where the machine was stuck. The next day when everyone went out to get it unstuck he didn't even show up.

They first tried to hood the other skidder to that one, not enough horsepower to pull it out. Ended up getting a D8 from the next town over. Drilled holes in the ice with an ice auger. Then used chainsaws to cut inbetween the holes. Even giving it a bed of ice to ride on on the way out the D8 still had troubles pulling it out but it got it.

No major damage done to the machine. But they did go and visit Captian Nemo after they got it out!!!!

I'm kinda surprise they waited until the skidder was out before paying that guy a visit.
I wonder if his pay check was a little short that week. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Oh us boy up north still get into trouble like that now and than. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Re: We want pictures!-Bobcat+loader Stuck

I don't have pics but looks a little like my John Deere last week. We have had so much snow here I've been piling it in the ditches along the road to move it out of the way. Well where our driveway is there's about a 4 foot graded slope from the road. I was booming along pushing snow and all the sudden the left side gave way and the tractor tipped over sideways into where I was pushing the snow. All that snow stopped it from rolling but it was sure stuck and buried!!!! To make matters worse I was already late for the office and had to leave it there for the day. Sure heard it from the local farmers that night when I got home!! They thought that was pretty funny. I was going to pull it out myself but as soon as I got home that night there were two of them there to rib me about it and help pull it out. Oh well at least I didn't have to pull it out myself.

All's well that ends well, eh? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Sounds like you've got some of those great country neighbors I've been hearing about.

That's cool. /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif

Re: We want pictures!-Bobcat+loader Stuck

Another of those nice things about living in the country. Two years ago, my wife rolled her car, went partially over and across a barbed wire fence, and ended up upside down in a pasture in some brush and briars. I was still on the volunteer fire department at the time and the fire chief was here at my house when we heard the call come out on his scanner, so we were there before the ambulance. I rode to the hospital in the ambulance with her, and while she was severely bruised, strained, scratched, etc., she was treated and released that same evening and when we got home, found that a neighbor had called his brother who owned a wrecker, they had already brought the car home and parked it in front of my shop building, and repaired the fence she damaged, then they brought in enough prepared food that evening to feed us for about 3 days./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: We want pictures!-Bobcat+loader Stuck

Yea these old guys around here are great Harv! They look after the place when I'm gone, come by and feed my animals for me. I always try and pay them but they'll never accept. Most of them have become patients and I don't ever charge their deductibles or co-pays so I guess it works out pretty good. I lived in the city while I was going to school and it nearly killed me. Can't imagine living anywhere but the country.

Re: We want pictures!-Bobcat+loader Stuck

Bird,
So call me a sap, but that one did indeed make my eyes a little wet just thinking about both how you must have felt on the ride to the hospital as well as what must have been going through your mind once you'd pulled into your driveway later.

This is exactly the sort of story that reaffirms some of my many reasons for moving to a more rural area. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Bird -
That's a terrific story of neighborly country folks, and I'm glad your wife came through okay.

Mark-
Okay, I'll call you a "sap" if you want me to /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif, but I think stories like Bird's touch all of us. In fact, I told my own story last year about how total strangers jumped in with both feet to save my mom's place from a fire. I won't clutter this thread by telling it again here, but you can check this post if you feel like reading it.

There's definitely a lot to be said for living in the country. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: We want pictures!-Bobcat+loader Stuck

Yep, Gordon, it scared both of us; she thought she was dying and I wasn't too sure she wasn't right.

Getting back to the topic here, my brother told me a story about when they were building the haul road for the Alaska pipeline and he swears they sunk a D8 Cat so deep in the tundra they couldn't pull it out with another D8, so they dug down beside it on each side, their explosives expert put small dynamite charges under the track on each side, hooked a long cable to the other D8, then the driver got on the stuck one, got it running, ready to instantly go full throttle forward, the one pulling strained on the cable, and they set off the dynamite. He said that D8 jumped up out of the mud and away they went. My brother says, even though the pay was good, it wasn't good enough for him to be on that Cat when they set off the dynamite, but it worked./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Oh, great! /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

Bad enough I have to learn how to use a cutting torch and a MIG welder -- now it's dynamite? /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

When I started carrying stuff around in ammo boxes I never dreamed I might have actually load them up with real ammo! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
