Burn barrel question...

I was left with two 55 gallon drums with used motor oil when tenant vacated… at a gallon per week it’s taking a very long time to get rid of…

The best burn barrels I saw were old stainless steel… my guess they might be archeologist find some day?
I've been getting rid of all of the waste oil and chemicals my father left behind, getting ready to sell the place.
Old engine oil is easy; a lot of garages accept it for their waste oil furnaces.
Probably those are also outlawed in your state.

Use to be very easy but all that remain have limits and auto parts stores that advertise used oil drop off now say the drums are full…

I can dispose of curbside 1 gallon a week… I could enlist some of my neighbors and place gallon jugs more places.

Didn't go into a trash container, but an empty cardboard line set case. Don't have to cut the pieces too small that way.
I order a lot of stuff here at the farm. I get a lot of things packaged with Styrofoam.
I bust it into smaller pieces and place it in the garbage container for the garbage truck to haul off. Sometimes, It takes a couple weeks to get it all gone, as the garbage truck only runs once a week here .
Any cardboard just gets burned

I am recieving more and more orders packed in kraft cardboard. That makes great fire starters in the wood stove.(y)

I run them over with the forklift at work and toss them into our scrap metal bin.

I would use the front loader to crush the old barrel, than take to metal scrap bin. But my burn barrel is 5 years old…still going strong. Holes drilled in bottom, and i turn it upside down in winter. Nit rusting.
I cut the bottoms out of my burn barrels.

I use yard waste in the barrels to burn smaller stumps out.

I've been clearing out some honey locust trees that have some nasty thorns. A burn barrel is perfect for burning the thorns. I use a lid to cover the barrel so it doesn't collect rain water.

My burn barrels never lasted long, so now I cut the top and bottom off and use a removeable cover for the top. Also, I set the barrel on two cement blocks so it gets plenty of air. Now they last a long time.

I used to go online to mich.gov and see when I can burn. Now in the summer months I just go out early in the morning to burn when there's heavy dew on the ground and buildings.
