3-Point Hitch Burning Clutch Smell

   / Burning Clutch Smell #11
I've had 'dry' brakes smoke when the light was off but a 'parking brake' had not fully released. Different IMO than when I get a smell kind of like singed friction lining just by pushing power limits for a handful of seconds.

It might happen when engine is warmed up and hydraulic oil isn't yet, IIRC. This is with HST, too, and I'm lost to imagines a source of anything but a little black smoke from the pipe that I can at least see. t o g

I suggest that pedal free-play might best be 25-35mm AKA 1-1.4"

That's not a lot for a linkage with 4-6" of travel and for operation by foot. :)

Cars/trucks aren't that different if you've had many manual transmissions. (more affordable in the '70s)

I would also add that make sure the rod going into the case is nice and free. You want the clutch linkage to be free from any pressure on the clutch when it should be released.

I agree. On Branson, there are two very hidden grease zerks for this shaft on the geared versions. One on each side of the tractor. Both are hard to see and go access.

Well, then you don't have a clutch nor a clutch pedal to adjust.

My three HST CUTs aren't Bransons and won't start without depressing the pedal to a clutch that they .. don't need?

The PTO won't turn if I hold it down.

Not on Branson. On the left you'll have the two brake pedals, one for each rear wheel. On the right, it's just the HST pedals.

Branson uses a electric over hydraulic PTO, so no need for a clutch pedal for that either...
