Bush Hog Connecting PTO shaft

You can't completely idiot proof everything. And there has to be room for the Darwin awards each year. Seems to me cutting the PTO driveshaft is the hardest part of getting a PTO driven implement set-up. Imagine how many screw that up and make it too short, consequences of which can be more dangerous....

Very true. But the person made the modification so is responsible for the consequences.

But we don't need to debate the finer points of this thread. We all seem to agree that the PTO hookup, in whatever form, could be improved.

No, there is no need to hash over every possible detail of what someone might be held responsible for, unless I choose to, in the thread I started.:confused3:

The idea here is to discuss what works better than what's available on the market presently, and to pass along useful tips to make what is available work more effectively, when possible.

I have not read any posts in this thread. Hang the drive shaft from the top three point with a bungie and connect and disconnect at your leisure.

Thanks, you know the mother of invention is necessity. And I needed the hog on the PTO regardless of what it wanted to do to defeat me.
And I agree on dry fitting if at all possible. Sometimes too much grease/lube is almost as bad as no grease at all.
BTW ~ Locktite makes a dry lube spray in a can that I've used for various things that needed a dry lube.

Yes, the pull the collar back, then push the shaft onto the tractor male splined PTO end sux big time. If I were designing something of that it would have a pull back and stay in place, push forward and lock into the splines/detent.

I think that is a good idea....the mod, is that it unlatches and pops forward once the cut in the spline is detected.

That would/should solve the lawsuit issue.

Do us all a favor and don't bother replying to threads you're too lazy to read.:banghead:

Agreed, the idea was just a , 'if I were to do it so it would work...' initial process. Having it pop into place, release would definitely make for the best result, regardless of lawsuits, etc.

Huh? Eric provided a great tip to help install a driveline. Geeez.....

I'm sure struggling with a pry bar and fluid film works too.

I use bungies to fix many things.

They have a long history of a love, hate relationship. :)

Plus Eric was probably to busy making a video of it, to read the thread.

I was using an iPhone and was/am in the middle of moving a house. :)

I never understood the reason for CM's hostility toward me, but I do understand CM goes out of his way to attack my person.

Anyway, a bungie taking the weight of the driveshaft is a real back-saver and makes what can be a hassle of a job as easy as it can be.

There is no struggle, didn't use a prybar, nor did I suggest Fluid Film, either. I said, two hands, one on collar retracting it, other working a screwdriver to push the shaft forward. Seems you still didn't read what was written.

You have done this: I haven't read any of the thread routine before this most recent thread. Are we supposed to care whether you've taken the time to read what's posted so you are up to speed with what is going on? And what you're doing, house moving or whatever on your phone, etc, what bearing does that have on anything?
There's no hostility toward you from me, I just don't like your holier than now, know it all persona/attitude. I don't attack your 'person', whatever that is.:confused3: You can keep making your vids, maybe you should get your own forum here on TBN for Erick only fans.
BTW, hanging the PTO shaft doesn't eliminate the need to be able to move the collar and shaft in different directions at the same time, which is the whole point of this thread.
