Just to remind everyone, the first Bush-Gore debate is tonight. There may be lots of tractor questions for the candidates. Then we can pontificate about the "winner" afterwards.

I would agree with #3 as the probable reason for the lopsided results. I believe this is probably the worst set of candidates since 1992. I suspect the biggest minority group that we have in common here on Tractorbynet is people with jobs. With these guys, I just have to vote my philosophies and forget about who is running. In '92, I made the mistake of voting for Perot and my vote, along with a few million other protest votes, opened the door for the worst president we have had in my lifetime and that goes back to Truman (not that I remember Truman)/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.

Bush.

Well, if the one who talks the most, talks the loudest, interrupts the most, and ignores the time limits the most wins, I guess Gore won. Do you reckon the debate changed anyone's mind about who they intend to vote for?/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Well fellers, now you know. Al is for the working man. When he says he wants to curtail domestic oil production, its for the working man. When Clinton was on TV lying about Monica, the reason Al was no where to be found, was because he was off doing something for the working man. And when Al was dragging out them sacks of loot from that Chinese temple, he was doing it for the working man./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Nope, I was listening to the call-in comments afterwards on C-span. And of course the people who are Democrats think Gore won, while the Republicans say Bush. Curiously enough the no-party people once again said they want to contemplate some more before they pronounce a winner. Guess no one's mind was changed: the Reps are still Reps, Dems still Dems and fence sitters are still sittin.

A sobering fact that has not yet been discussed is that the next POTUS will set the balance of the Supreme Court for the forseeable future. This may be one of the longest term ramifications of this years election.

I don't think anyone who was already supporting Bush or Gore will change their mind. The impression I came away with is that, for all his domination of the word count, Gore seemed more programmed and artificial and impolite. Bush was lighter on details, but seemed more natural and was trying to paint more of a big picture distinction between himself and Gore.

I read on the Gallup site that Bush's supporters cited Bush the winner by a margin of 79% to 11%, while Gore's supporters cited their own candidate by the slightly greater margin of 81% to 7%. So we all have the satisfaction of knowing our candidate won the debate. If you aren't a swing voter in a swing state neither Gore or Bush was fighting for your vote anyway.

Did either one of them actually give a straight out answer to one of Russert's questions? 'course not - it's impossible for any politician to do so!

Actually, I think that Bush came closest when Russert asked something like "Why do you say that Mr. Gore cannot be trusted." and Bush mentioned the Buddhist Temple "non-fund raiser".

I wish Bush would have answered Gore just one time with "Well, the wealthiest taxpayers get 30% of my proposed tax refund because the wealthiest taxpayers pay 30% of the taxes - why doesn't that sound fair to you, Al?"

Geeze, if these guys (politicians in general) could only talk like we do here on tractorbynet we'd all be a lot better off!

Just my 2cents
