I'm already looking at full sized backhoes :licking:

Anyway, I'm trying to get the Massey dealer to come off his price $1000-$1500, basically throwing in the rear remote and diverter. From what he's said, they'd cost about $1500 combined. However, after reviewing LD1's diverter install thread, I think I could probably do that myself if I needed to. I've emailed him back, so we shall see. My gut tells me I'll probably end up with the MX, but I do think that the 1700 series are the ultimate compact tractors. I'd take one over anything on the market any day, just wonder as to why its sat on his lot at a good price for at least a year. Maybe he just doesn't do much volume in compacts, as he has a good number of big tractors on the lot.

About the tires: As I've said before, our ground is very rocky. Sharp black granite rocks, anything from 6" - 36", in lots of places. Would the industrial tires on the Massey hold up to this better than the Ag tires on the MX? Less likely to get sliced open by an unusually sharp rock?

My view is the Kubota. First, you already agreed. Second, the Kubota has much better resale potential. Third, I believe the Kubota has more of a cult following to it and as a result there will be implements painted orange and more people to buy parts and things from. That means better prices and accessibility of parts and service.

They are both great tractors. I would not lose any sleep over owning either one if I had no preference. It comes down to your preference. If you want the Massey get it even if it cost you a little more. It's what you want. I wanted a New Holland Workmaster and bought one. The Kubota will serve you well. The Massey will serve you well. Get the one you want.

Industrials would fare better on rocks.

Factory offerings in R1/ag tires are always four ply. Six ply R1s are available as replacements, though seldom seen because four ply flexibility helps R1 tire bars grip mud.

Factory offerings in R4/industrial tires are always six ply.

No big deal on the tire bottoms but a big difference in R4 puncture/slice resistance on the tire SIDEWALLS. With the rock you have described, R4/industrial tires would be better.

R1/ag tires squat more with heavy loads in the FEL bucket, not properly counterbalanced. Under that condition, R1s are especially vulnerable to sidewall cuts.

If you travel over roads, R4s roll with MUCH less vibration and less rapid wear than R1/ag tires.

Kevlar tires are available for tractors used to collect demolition materials and forest fire fighting. I have never seen pricing. Probably a lot due to minuscule volume.

Well, I've made up my mind. I'm sticking with the MX5100 HST 4x4. Enough back and forth on this and that. I've committed to it, and it has a good number of advantages that I really like. And the money wouldn't quite be the same on the 1754.
I paid for $28,000 for the MX5100 with SSQA loader, two rear remotes w/ float, loader diverter valve, filled tires, and a 6' box blade. Probably more than I should have paid, but that's water under the bridge. Now, I just can't wait to put it to work!

If I end up slicing open a sidewall on the R1 Ags, I'll just go to 8 ply industrials, at least on the front.

With 48 posts in your thread I believe you have made a carefully reasoned decision which will not leave you with buyer's remorse.

Strong tractor.

Nice work. Glad you made the decision on the MX. It's a workhorse for years to come.
