If the deal on the 5420 is that good, then you shouldn't have to worry too much about depreciation.
I use our 5420's FEL to haul big trees the size you have without having to "drag" / pull them. It can be a balancing act. Of course, our trees are thinned out enough to do this. Also, the 5420 can push over some trees with the FEL up high eliminating having to cut them. If your are lucky, most of the root ball comes out too. Might not work for older Christmas trees.
Cowboydoc is right. You'll need the extra HP for the 8-10' shredder. Especially in the thick stuff.
I can honestly say you WON'T Regret having the 5420's size and HP for the initial jobs you spoke of...Kyle
