Chris,

So right - i was thinking the same thing about the L45 to B3200/BH77 are different machines.

I was thinking the same thing. My 3200 will probably seem puny when I get it!

Well they just dropped off the L45 and I dug out my first stump. It was my first time ever on a machine and it took me about 30-40 minutes. I got the 10" stump out but made a mess and left a big hole. Sure is a lot harder then it looks. Will be back to Hoe school tomorrow morning.

Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it. On my BX25, I have to try to remember not to use two circuits at the same time whenever possible - just not enough hydraulic flow. I try to take one hand off the controls momentarily sometimes to make sure I'm not leaking fluid to one of the other circuits. I'm sure that's not an issue for the L45 nor likely your BH77.

Maybe take some pic's of that L45 when you have a chance, you know, as a photo tune-up for delivery day.

I'll try to get a picture but I'm not real smart with posting the picture to the Tractorbynet board here.

Jim,

With the BH dig left and right 1 foot outside the stump to find the tap root or one solid root to grab then lift/curl the bucket- if that doesnt work dig deeper until you can grab a main root and the stump moving a bit. Once it moves you've won the battle.

The hole it leaves and the stump removal/haul fee is why I suggested to get them ground down.

Have fun with the L45, and BTW while you have that machine go after the big ones.

Cheers,

Carl

Congrats on the B3200! You will love it! From my stump removal experience on a BX24 it takes some practice but once you get the bucket under the stump and it starts moving you know its gonna come out.

Some people enjoy hours and hours of working on one job(stump) and finally getting the stump out and then dealing with the stump and the hole. I'm not one of them. You'll get a bit quicker on each stump with that machine then when your smaller machine comes it will be a bit slower than that machine.
Grinding the stumps is the best choice for me but here where I live there is only one, maybe two guys with stump grinders. They charge by the inch and it's expensive. A dozer can push out 10 stumps and have them piled up to burn in less time than one stump can be ground up. Here several people have dozers and they are not all that expensive per hour. A dozer can push them into a pile and level the ground back in short order. Burn the pile later or sooner.
Some jobs are just better done by equipment designed for the job. Just my experience and opinion.

Carl and JohnThomas,

I'm doing just that, one foot on each side and then the curling of the bucket. I'm getting better at it so far this morning I got 7 or 8 out. JohnThomas, I can see how a dozer would be best but I'll just pick away with this L45 while I got it.

Jim,

As i mentioned grinding the stumps early in this post, the stumping process creates craters, roots and rocks to clean up after the fact. The worst part is all the stringer roots to cut and clean up.

We cleared 1.5 ac with 70+ 24"-36"pine stumps - commercailly stumped but I did cleanup, and the rocks and roots and debris took 2 years to get any reasnable grass after 150 yards of loam and materials.

On the other hand, we ground 20 stumps and in 3 months and 30 yards of loam it was a nice yard.

The grinding was in 02 and 06 and still no settling has occured in the stump grinder area. On the other hand, the stumped ground that was backfilled takes years to fill in the voids left from stumping, and this creates dipsy doos in the yard.

Done both and grinding is the best here in the NE.

NevadaMOGuy,

I'm leaning toward the 3200 thinking I can take care of most of my needs on the 5 acres and pick up some side work and put my young lazy boys to work a little!

I currently own a BX23. I've had it since 2004 and I've put 612 hours on it. I put in a driveway (had to dig down a foot and a half or so), dug up some stumps, up to 8 inches or so even the fresh ones come out relatively easy. We also had a large pine tree (like 2ft diameter trunk type large) cut down - and I used the backhoe, and a chainsaw - and an axe - to get that sucker out. It took me a few days of going at it for a couple of hourse each night to finally remove the whole thing. I've moved probably a few hundred yards of dirt with it too - and I've moved some pretty impressive sized rocks.

This was all on a 1/2 acre suburban lot.

After 8 years (actually I wished for a bigger tractor years ago) - I'm getting a B3200, with the backhoe. I still have a bunch of projects I want to get done - and I'm getting older and I would like to get stuff done faster instead of hacking away at it with the BX. If you've got 2.5 acres worth of stumps to clear - and you want to try doing it yourself - i would go for the biggest hoe you can afford. A larger mowing deck (72in vs 60in) - will cut down your grass 20% faster. You will be able to lift bigger rocks, dig bugger stumps, haul more stuff in the bucket, etc.

And last but not least: you will have a wider range of adaptability with the larger tractor (B3200). You can get a quick attach option on the FEL to put other accessories on. You can plumb in auxiliary hydraulics easier (there's extra ports already provided - the BX doesn't have this). You will have more ground clearance, the ability to pull larger implements, the ability to use true Cat1 implements - instead of the "almost" Cat1 implements the sub-compact tractors use.

If you've got a total of 5 acres - I would definitely get the B3200. Especially if the affordability is not an issue.

The only things I can think of where the BX might have advantages over the B is in mowing (BX abuses the turf a lot less) - and in manueverability.

Jim,

Thanks for the input. Makes me feel like
I made the right choice. Today back at it with the L45. Getting a little better at it. Took out about 15-18 stumps yesterday. This L45 is a beast!!!

The L45 won't start, won't even turn over. I thought I left the key on earlier and just jumped it with my Dodge PU hemi. Started fine and ran for 2 more hours. Now I shut it off and it won't even start with a jump. Machine has 100.3 hours on it, just broke in. Whats up with this thing?

I missed your post about getting the B3200 - congratulations!

Sounds like you and I will be getting our tractors at about the same time. I'm picking up my B3200 on the 30th when I get back from vacation.

L45 start problem: check all the safety interlocks. I had something like this happen to my BX a few years back. I had been digging for a few hours with it. Shut it down to go inside and eat lunch - and when I came back out I couldn't get it started again. I tried everything - and no go. In the end I think it was one of the safety interlocks that had just gotten horked up somehow.

Jim,

As Jim W said check the interlocks - esp the shift mechanism and PTO, seat. Do you get any dash lights?

Its getting later on Sunday now and I know you have this for the weekend - maybe the dealer will be nice enough to leave it for a few more days of "fun" or until he brings your 3200?

Cant be without a tractor now - just wouldnt be right..

Good luck.

I checked the interlocks. The dash indicator battery and oil psi lights are staying on. I don't know but I think the battery is not charging or I'm missing something.

I am going to see if the dealer will give me a couple more days. I was really getting good at using the backhoe.
