From reading threads, I've gotten the impression that the BX line is better at mowing than the B series. Is that true and why?

I've just bought 5 acres. The whole thing is a hill and one side is somewhat steep, but don't think it will be a problem.

The primary use will be mowing, but we will be building and landscaping soon. Also, I hope to smooth out some of the bumpy field over time.

I have looked at used BX2200, BX2350, BX2360, B7500, and B7800 (as well as a John Deere 2305 and 2210). I'm not sure what all I will use it for, but I want a FEL in addition to a 60" MMM.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

If you're cutting on a hill , get rear spacers on she'll be on her side
with you hanging on too ! The BX is too narrow in the rear . Get a
Dealer to bring something out for a demo .

I have never owned a BX but do own a B7800. The B7800 does handle a loader very well. I also use it to mow with a RFM.

Yup. imho, the B with the spacers is equally stable. I'd spring for them, even though GAG!!! The price!!! But, safety first.

I have a b2920. It would be fine for mowing open areas, and i use mine on very steep slopes a lot with no issues. You don't get turf damage if your not in 4wd, in 4wd very tight turns tend to dig up grass with the front wheels, small turns are fine. I wouldn't use the b for mowing tight areas with lots of obstacles, its maneuverable, but much larger than the bx for that job. I use a smaller jd for mowing. The b will likely be better for all non mowing tasks than the bx due to size a d weight.

I have both a BX and now a B2620 Go with the B and get the floating deck and turf tires.

I have a 2660 and am very pleased with the 60" mmm. I also have the 48" rear Brush Bull, Woods mower which I have used very little. The BX did handle it well. I remove the FEL and any rear implements and just run the mmm when mowing. It is much more stable on a slope in this configuration. I'm a chicken and only run up and down the slopes right up and down the fall line. That has worked very well on some pretty good slopes. I have been very pleased with my BX. It has plenty of power. More than enough actually as I run out of traction long before I run out of power. I guess the extra power does no good if you can't put it on the ground. That extra power does go to the PTO though.

This is my first tractor and initially I was reluctant to remove the FEL/mmm etc. I found it to be a snap. I can have the mower off in a couple minutes and back on in 5. The FEL is 3 minutes off and probably the same back on.

I've been very pleased with my BX, BUT, if I was starting over, knowing what I know now I'd give the B a really long look. My only problem with the BX is lack of ground clearance in the gardening dept, but I'm doing a lot of that now,so it is an issue.

My first Kubota was a BX2200 MMM FEL which I bought a bit over 9 years ago. The ground clearance was also an issue. I found out tractors can be traded just like cars which I had done often. I traded that BX to a B7800 FEL and RFM which I kept for 3 years before trading it and the BX1500 MMM that I had bought for two different Kubotas.
I believe the first Kubota is the trial Kubota to buy and better determine your actual needs and then go for the one that meets your needs best.:D
Life is to short to waste any of it on keeping the wrong machine when it's as simple as a call or contact to Barlows. They'll take the wrong one and bring you the right one with just a few signatures, it's only money and your peace of mind and happiness with a new tractor is more valuable than that ole money.
Well, over the years I've signed 13 contracts with Barlows and have finally landed with 5 Kubotas to help me be the most happy. Working toward number 14 now and not saying there won't end up being 15 eventually when I get more paid down on this geared B2320 to send it on down the road for a B2320HST.

That's interesting. Sometimes, no matter how much we research, life changes. We find ourselves doing things we couldn't have foreseen. A piece of land comes up adjacent to ours and it requires logging? Didn't see that coming?

I had a BX and LOVED it, but quite unexpectedly, our gardening business and road stand sales took off, the little BX had to go. It simply doesn't have the ground clearance for serious produce farming activities, where the B does.

Yup, had to make that change myself, but unlike JohnThomas, I took my time, sold it outright, saved an additional $1500 over just trading it in, bought the B and moved on. JT is comfortable with what he does, and so am I.

Who is to say that life won't reverse those contexts in 5 years and I'll be looking at the brand, new, extra-ordinary, super, duper little BX again? Could happen.:laughing:

BP,
do you have a MMM or a RFM on you "B"? How's the mowing compared to your former BX? I'm considering moving to a "B" due to my increase gardening. And my arthritic hands just can't take much more hoeing.:( But I really love to hand hoe because it's so peaceful and uncomplicated. :)
