Hey,

On my BX-22 with 60" Deck

I have the Kubota Vaccuum Bagger attachment I bought used for my BX22 for the purpose of picking up leaves.

It works great.....

The one problem is I need to empty the three bags after about 400' of picking up leaves.Which means lots of trips to the mulch pile.

Anyone come up with a better way to bag the leaves?

I was thinking of a trailer attachment to hold more of the shredded leaves

or......

maybe just making a few passes over the leaves and shredding without the bags attached and then coming back to gather them with the bags after they are more finely chopped,

Any suggestions? Pictures?

This is my first season with the bagger attached.

Thanks

I have one........ You have a garden?

Do like we do here. Dump the leaves in the garden and then run a small tiller over them to get some dirt on them to help put the earth bugs to work and that will break them down to fine soil in the spring.. Then till in the spring and you have a garden that things fall over in.......... Do not let anyone else dump leaves on you.. I mean don't advertise.. You will get junk.. Leaves from your place will make your garden Happy as a Clam. Ever seen a happy Clam?

I also run the bagger and note the same issue. I have tried the strategy of running over the leaves to chop them up then suck them up on the next pass...I just ended up with a bunch of leaf bits in the lawn.

The only thing I've done that makes a difference is to make that painful, full deck width first pass, then after that I only cut half the deck width to the left of the deck. By sending the leaves picked up by the left-most blade through the center and right blades, they get hacked up a bit more before passing through the impeller and into the bags. I've noticed that to make quite a difference.

The ONLY other thing I've done is collect leaves more often. At the peak, I probably need to collect leaves every 2 or 3 days to keep up with them such that I only need to empty the bagger 2 or 3 times over my acre.

I have a neigbor that bags his leaves every night this time of year to keep up with them. As for me, I got a cyclone rake and added gator blades to my deck this year. Pull it behind my Wheel Horse. Between the gators and the cyclone rake blade, the leaves just about turn to dust when they're dry. When wet, they will slip past the blades more and remain in larger pieces. DR, Trac-vac, and Agrifab also make trailer style leaf vac's. Check them out.

I have a lot of oak trees and FEL and a bagger system as well...I just "push" the early heavily fallen leaves into a pile of sorts, pick them up with the bucket to put into a burn/smoldering pile...The rest I use the bagging system and just take my time...Bagger works great for mulch for my garden as I can see every year come harvest time.

Me too, and I feel your pain! I was just coming in from picking up leaves to post the same question. I had a Cyclone Rake prior to the BX24, and I sold it thinking the bagger would work as well. Major mistake. Suffice to say, it doesn't come close to the volume capability that the Cyclone Rake had. These little bags are killing me! So many leaves, so little time before the snow flies.... I NEED A BIGGER CONTAINER!!

The bag frame is strong appears strong enough to use as a support for a box or something larger than those measly little bags. Anyone??..anyone??.....

The box idea might be something .........

something with a dump so you dont have to remove the small bags and line up that slot. It is a real pain taking them on and off.

I'm sure someone has solved this dilemma already.

The system works well enough , it is the size of the bags that I see as the major drawback.

I've been lurking here for a while in anticipation of buying a BX25 when the time is right. When I do, I'm going to give serious consideration to adapting the Simplicity collector cart and "turbo blower" I have for my current tractor, which has a 54" deck.
They can be seen here;
Attachments / Products / Simplicity
(near the middle of the page)
The cart attaches to a bracket on the back of the tractor that would be fairly easy to adapt to a 3PH and has caster wheels in the rear so it follows the tractor quite well. The cart holds 17 bushels and dumps without too much trouble. It is also not too much trouble to remove the fabric upper part and the support frame, which makes it easier to store. It cost me over 1K 3 years ago and I had to swallow hard when I bought it, but it sure does work well for my 1.5 acres with quite a few large trees. :)

Love my trac-vac for behind my BX2230 for leaf pickup. That big old trailer will hold a lot of leaves for sure.Filled it 4 times today I live in the center of 6 acres of woods 2 acres was cleared for lawn makes for a lot of leaves. We all have our favorite methods.I used to use the loader like said before difinitly better than raking but if you can afford trac-vac or cyclone rake you won't be sorry if your dealig with a lot of leaves.

You have one of the very best machines for leaf collection. I have often considered mounting serrated teeth on the impeller blades, however with only two large deciduous trees on my 5 acres, it has never seemed worth-while.
