Ok.. I know most of you came in here to tell me that the BX22 and BX23 have a sturier frame etc etc and so they can do it but the BX is not beefy enough for the task. Thanks for dropping by, but I'm gonna ask a slightly different question.

I took a good hard look at a 23, and I don't see any reason why there isn't a kit that we early adopters (I've owned my BX since Aprilish 2001) could just bolt on to the BX. Why not? Cost? If I were to sell my BX and take the depreciation and buy a new one. The cost difference between what I get for mine and what I paid for mine, PLUS the additional $ to get me up to a BX23, adds up to a substantial sum. Now of course I wouldn't be willing to pay ALL of that (or I'd have a NEW machine). But I just think they could market a backhoe w/ kit for the 2200 that would fit right up. It might be a bit more than the aftermarket hoes, but hey, it's OEM and that always is a little more.

Perhaps this has been talked about before... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Have you looked at the two tractors side by side to see what's different? I agree that it should be possible to retrofit and it may be a good aftermarket opportunity. Key things to look for would be differences in the castings/machinings. Brackets would be easy to add but it could be difficult (though not impossible) to make up for major casting changes /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It's conceivable that you could retrofit a BX2200 with the subframe, but it would likely be a whole lot of work for not much financial gain, give that parts may cost more than the sum of a new machine. Given that at least one manufacturer is "supposedly" working on a BH for the non-hoe-equiped BX, it may be better to keep tabs on availability of that option. Otherwise, if you really need the hoe, you can do what many of us have done...upgrade. I didn't take as much of a "bath" as I thought I might at first given the higher trade one local dealer offered me. I probably could have closed the gap further by selling the BX2200 privately if I was willing to wait on the transaction. At least our orange machines hold value very well!

The only difference I saw (other than seating stuff) was a frame piece from the loader mount into the frame that sandwiched on the way to the rear, with the rest of the frame. I dunno. I just don't want to sell my BX. I've maintained it well, and it has a lot of good decades left in it. Plus (oh, here comes the can o worms opener), I just don't like the look of the new ones as much. I don't like the new dark emplem, the silly (my opinion) number emplem, the lights etc. I like my old one better.

Wallenstien makes a backhoe for the BX2200 and the JD2210 and they are both "subframe" type mount.

It has. Woods supposedly has one in the works (smaller/lighter even than their 6500) but they won't tell us when they're going to begin production of it (they always say "Real Soon Now" or words to that effect0.

I feel the same way as you, by the way... I don't want to take a multi-thousand-dollar bath on trade-in just to get a backhoe.

regards,

Mahlon

My local dealer has a Landpride backhoe mounted on a BX2230 sitting next to the BX23. The Kubota backhoe looks more refined, but the Landpride looks like it would get the job done! I only took a quick look the other day so I can't answer questions but I'm sure someone will come up with more.
