Next was to remove the MMM, Loader and 3-pt arms. Jack up the rear and place jack stands under the axles. Remove the rear wheels. Then various screws from the side of the frame. You'll need a good complement of 1/2" drive metric and standard sockets with a breaker bar ( those babies were tight! ) Remove the diff. lock bar from the peddle and replace it with a new solid bar (slide it in place but don't attach it yet because the new right sub-frame has to clear it )

( Spinning the seat on the Woods spin kit is easier than the BX23 when I tried both side by side. I like only having one seat it looks a bit odd to have both)

Matt and Woods,

How snug is it sitting inside that ROPS? Have you heard of any safe modifications to it to make it closer to the size of a BX23 FROPS?

I also want to hear about how the bh performs.

Tom

Here's some parts. You can see the seat adaptor plates, hoses, brackets and pins.

All of the different hardware came in numbered bags that helped take some of the confusion out of the day /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif It looks like a drug bust.

Next mount the front brackets to the loader brackets. NOTE: the instructions say to only mount this backhoe to a tractor equiped with a front loader. I'm assuming it's due to the weight factor, but I'm not condoning adding spacers in place of the front loader brackets that are 1/4" thick.

Mount up the sub-frames. Some of the holes are over sized to go over the couple of bolts that were'nt removed to hold the tractor together while the others were removed. The sub-frame mounts to the loader brackets and rear PTO frame as well as the main frame. This should strengthen the main frame quit a bit. I'll work some more on it tonight to get the seat frame on and post more later. The saftey flag gets a new relocation bracket to move it over more to the side, but the backhoe has it's own flag mount already on it. The original flag slides right in.

Woods,

Are you having to follow any torque specs with a torque wrench or do you just tighten the sub-frame bolts until they're really snug?

There are torque specs in the manuals, but from experience I tighten them down as snug as possible with out stripping the transaxel casting or supplied nuts. A 20" maximum handle length on your wrench will keep the torque to a safe level for the max. 87 ft.lbs. required on the larger bolts. A 10" wrench is fine for the smaller bolts. Some of the main 5/8th inch bolts that connect the back hoe to the quick disconnect backhoe brackets need to be tightened to 170 ft.lbs. For that a piece of 3' long 1 1/2" heavy wall pipe over the 20" wrench will do. You don't want the bolts coming loose with the twisting forces on the frame nor do you want to snap them off. If you're known to snap off a bolt now and then /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I'd recommend the torque wrench over the "easy out" tool.

Woods

I would recommend you follow the torque settings to the letter. That is one thing that Woods Equipment stressed to me when I was planning to do my install. I elected to have the dealer do it for me since I was a bit tapped on time. I'm not regretting that either. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I haven't noticed it being all that tight but then again I've only had a chance to play on it a short period of time. I dont think it willbe a major issue. If it was you'd see alot of folks putting the BX23 ROPS on the BX2230 or changing the ROPS to an aftermarket one.

Ask me after I spend an entire day digging on it and I might say something different.
