BX2230 vs. TZ24DA

Henro...I tend to agree also. I saw the TZ's, and that kinda got me thinking of a tractor again. I bought the BX23 because of the backhoe and complete package. Maybe in a few years when I am done with the "Hoe" I will trade her in for something fresh again. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hi all,
I am, for all pratical purposes, a tractor newbie.
After checking out all the tractors that seem to be able to meet my needs, I chose a TZ18DA.
It was delivered yesterday, and as of today,(Sat.) I have put 3.5 hrs on it.
VERY nice machine!
I have a 2000 ft grass runway to mow, and I cut the whole thing(had a good 10" high grass on it) in a little over an hour.
This little tractor hauls butt, and cuts great! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Also put together a 17 cf cart for it this morning, will use it to haul stuff around my place/airstrip.
I'm no expert by a long shot, but the NH sub-cut works for me!!

Did you get any implements other than the mower deck? How about a Front End Loader? Box blade to groom the driveway? Etc???

No other impements just yet, got the 54" mmm, that was it.
I went to Lowe's and got the cart for it...was a kit and only took an hour or so to assemble.
I plan on getting either a snow blade OR the FEL....I honestly do not have much use for a FEL though, no dirt to move, etc.
Seems to be mixed opinions on using a FEL for moving snow, here in the Northern Neck of Virginia, don't really have a LOT of snow, usually.
Course, with me saying that, this winter will probably be a doozy!!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Congrats Pud2. Hope you and your tractor have a long happy life together! John

Could not help but think when I read these words...

If you have one they (the uses) will come... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Having a loader is one of the best parts of having a tractor...for many of us anyway... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

My Cub Cadet garden tractor does not have an FEL. When I bought my NH TC24D I did not get the FEL becuase I had a FEL on the Kubota B2910. It did not take very long to realize that I screwed up and I added a 12LA loader to the NH after the fact. When I bought my Ventrac 3000 I bought it to be strictly a mowing machine to speed up the mowing chores, and I think I have probably used the front "slip scoop" (sort of a mini-loader) for about 25% of the hours that I have racked up on that tractor. I think that Henro is right, you will find uses for the FEL that you never realized you had. But all that said, a garden cart and a shovel cost a couple thousand $$$ less than a FEL and can accomplish most of the same jobs . . . assuming your back is up to the task. For the first few years I lived in the country I didn't even consider a FEL, but as age crept up on me the desire for a FEL grew. Now I pretty much consider them to be indespensible, but often can't tell you exactly what it is used for because it seems to be used so frequently -sometimes as a simple tool carrier, sometimes to transport plants, sometimes to haul mulch, sometimes to haul building materials (see the thread about my daughter's playhouse), pushing snow in the winter, and they can even be used to carry the trash cans out to the curb!

I suspect that over time the desire to have a FEL will grow from "no need" to "how did I ever live without it?"

I decided I needed a FEL before I decided that I needed a tractor.

My wife wanted to put decorative rocks/pea gravel in her flowerbeds around the house. So she had a load of it delivered. The day it was to be delivered I put a tarp out where I wanted it dropped. Note that I am in the Qzarks and don't own any flat spots of ground. I put the tarp on a high spot so that I would be moving down hill with the wheelbarrow loads of gravel.

Of course after I left for work, and before the truck arrived, my wife moved the tarp to make it easier for the dump truck driver to back up to it. Easier being the lowest spot near the drive. I was not happy when I got home that evening and discovered that I would be pushing loads of gravel uphill.

I did about two loads and then told my wife I was going to town to get a trailer for the lawn tractor. She whined about spending the money on a trailer and said I should just work slower. She was in no hurry. Ain't she good to me? So I filled the wheelbarrow and then told her to work slowly while she moved it up the hill.

I did the rest of that job with my new trailer but the whole time I was filling it and emptying it by hand, I just knew that what I really needed was a FEL. And I got my tractor with a FEL about 6 months later.

Haven't moved any more pea gravel but I have moved a pallet of edging bricks and a few hundred bags of mulch from my trailer to 4 different flower beds. And there is no better tool for lifting my lawn tractor and trail mower to remove and sharpen the blades.

I think mine follows me around when I work - it always seems to be right there waiting for me to put something in it! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I just downsized to a BX2230 this month but with all I am reading about how nice the NH and MF subs are I have decided that I need one of each!! Now, if you guys will just start sending donations I promise to report back on which one I like best...Deal?? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
