2) Storage would be a problem. A longer space would be needed to park the tractor inside with the backhoe on, and there isn't an inside space to store it when off the tractor.

In contrast the front-end-loader is proving to be as useful as expected.
That is one of my issues too.....I'd love the BH, but have limited room for storage. My truck sits outside to make room for my Kubota!!!!

We recently decided on a BX2350 instead of a BX24 even though a backhoe might be occasionally handy because:

1) Not many potential uses for a backhoe beyond digging up a few stumps and possibly planting a few trees. No construction projects are contemplated, and no drainage ditches to dig out. If we do need some minor backhoe work done I'll see if our neighbor can do it since he's always looking for an excuse to use his. I've noticed that he rarely has it mounted on his tractor, which might indicate how frequently he has need for it. (He uses the tractor for property maintenance, etc, but not for mowing.) For major backhoe work I'll rent a larger backhoe or hire someone to do it.
2) A longer space would be needed to park the tractor inside with the backhoe on,

3) $3500 or so can be used for other things, including attachments which will get more use, and some which are not tractor related.
1*3 years later and mine still has projects waiting on it.
Mine is always on the tractor cause I use/need it fairly often.
Now that I have the BH I'd hate to think of going back to having to hire someone. Another problem with hiring is A lot of the small jobs will never get done.
2* The 22 foot long stall I park my BX23 in would still be 22 feet long even if I took the BH off.
3*I'd probably get less use our of most other implements than I do the BH.
Here is a list of the hours I've put on various attachments in the last 3 years.
Box blade 0 Rear Blade 0 Landscape Rake 0 Brush hog 0 Plow 0
Makes more sense for me to have the $3500 in the BH rather than in any of these.
Had I not gotten The BX23 I would never have been happy with the BX2230 and would have wasted a bunch of extra money trading the BX2230 back in on the BX23.
I don't think the woods BH was available for the BX2230 when I bought the BX23.

Hey Lee,
What was the reason for getting all those implements? Was the deal so good, like your multiple BX purchase, you couldn't resist?
I'm in the market for a 5ft landscape rake, 4 ft boxblade and maybe a rear blade. I'll take them off your hand. I'll even through in a digital camera to take and post pictures of all your gear.

And like other poster, I get calls all the time for hey can that baby tractor get in and dig out my septic tank $50 and a bottle of good wine in my case and the job is done.
I'm not botherd by request like that.
I'd have to turn them down anyway because of no insurance.
Better check your coverage before doing things for others.

I didn't say I had them all i did was give an account of how many hours i used them.

The point I was making is it made more sense for me to purchase $3500 worth of BH that I use fairly frequently than it would have made for me 2 put that same money into $3500 worth of attachments/implements that I have no use for.

the BX23/24 hoe is an intergal part of tractor it can be removed to put 3 point on but the mounts were designed for that hoe mine only takes about 10 minuets to put on and about 5 to take it off.

you will come up with 100 things that you didnt think of to use the hoe for after you have it.

tom
A BH is sorta like A FEL that way.

The advantage to the BX24 is the deal you get on the backhoe. To get one later is a big hit. Better to get the BX24 with a backhoe engineered for the tractor. Then pick up implements over time.
Sorry Lee,
I thought you were bragging about all your toys. I mean tools. Just experiencing tractor envy.

Is it okay to be different than you?

I've been using the rear blade to move snow, will use the brush hog to cut several areas once the snow is gone and the ground dries out, and plan on acquiring a box blade and rake for contouring the lawn and maintaining the gravel driveway.

If it had been no added cost I probably would have taken the backhoe. But I would have needed to think about it.
