Can anyone help me understand the differences between the bx24 and the bx25? Is the bx25 merely a newer model?

If I understand correctly, the 25 has a higher capacity pump (hydraulics work at lower RPM) and the hood and fenders are plastic on the 24 and metal on the 25. Also, the 25 has been fitted with a HST guard (although rumor has it that early 25's lack this feature)

the bx 25 is the newer model, same hp, capacity. It has metal hood, fenders etc not plastic.
The hydraulic priority flow valve allows hydraulic functions at a lower engine speed, and the transmission is internally different due to complaints of abrupt reverse stopping.

You nailed it...Not much diff between the two. Seems like Bota always has issue with the hyd on these units...The old 22 was the creeping, 23/24 was the stop deal. The plastic hood and fenders has advantages (no denting), no rust etc.

If, by chance, you are looking at a used BX24, you might want to know that multiple versions of the fender/floorboard were sold on this unit. Kubota went to plastic on hood and floorboard when introducing this model. The first version experienced numerous cracks. There were recalls and reinforcement kits. They kept trying to fix it and later and later models had successively different versions of the fender/floorboard. You can find all the details in the archives here. If you are looking at a used one, it would be beneficial to find out which manifestation of fender/floor it has and do some reading in the archives before putting down any money. On the 25, they went back to metal; this one has been a solid performer, all bugs worked out and gone. Almost nobody complains about the BX25.

The BX24/25 have the curved backhoe boom, while the 22/23 have the straight boom. There are other small (engine, pumps, seat) differences as well.

For the metal body parts alone i would go for the 25. I have a 24 late model and still have had the lower cowl crack where it mounts and the headlamp module crack, the trans issue is very annoying. I got a good deal on a demo 24 but wish i waited. Also what people need to rember is that if you are unfortunate to "bump something" with a plastic hood body or have a rock hit it and crack it you are done. Metal can be welded bondo'ed to death plastic has NO place on these machines thus the change back to metal.

I've been totally satisfied with my BX23.

Based on my praise, a friend bought one of the first BX24 and has mixed feelings about it... it has done a good job for him, but the issues with the plastic cracking and needing reinforcing gets old.

So far the BX25 seems to have gotten it right.

Just one added note. The engine cowling on the BX25 is still plastic. They went back to metal for the hood itself, but the side skirts are still plastic.

I've bumped lots of things...no permanent damage, only scratches. Bumped fender hard enough to break out taillite...twice...if had been metal, would be bent and rusty by now...:)
