Sometimes the linkages get stiff with rust after a while. Get some spray and lube all the pivots, even the shafts going into the cases.

My BX24 occasionally faults due to this pto switch. Like you found let it fall back to park position and switch closes or open whichever state that produces a start. Frustrating. Too many safety switches until they save someone from a stupid act.

Just in case anyone else is following up...
BX23 - I had a hard hit in the woods, stalled, with no restart.
Tried all the interlocks and levers I could find, nothing.
Waited for the next cool morning, got my book, meter, jumper wires and such - found I had literally knocked the small connector loose of the starter wiring 'block' on the starter, had a push tab or such, somehow operated on big slam.
Pushed it back in and it worked fine, could have done it the day before...

Thanks for the follow up. Again today after some mowing tried to restart and nothing. Looked at the PTO lever and it was literally less than 1/2 inch from the top of the slot. Pulled to seat it and fired up. Crazy!

Yes, I get this fairly frequently on my BX 25. All I have to do is jiggle the lever a bit, and it lets the engine start.

Don’t feel bad. My BX2670 wouldn’t shut down a few weeks ago. After getting tired of looking for culprits, and needing to finish a project, I just choked off its air supply until I could find the problem. After I was done that evening, I pulled it in the barn, choked it off, and as I re-tightened the hose clamp in the intake, I see a plug on top of the engine. It looked slightly “ long”. I pushed it together. Snap. Started the tractor, turned off the key. The tractor shut down. How it separated, I’ll never know.
