BX25 Lights

You stated that you purchased 2 pair. Are you mounting all 4 forward, 2 forward, 2 back? I'm thinking about ordering a set of floods to face the rear.

I'm mounting two forward and two back. When you order them as "Pairs" they ship with a wiring harness and switch that control BOTH lights at one time. If you order them as one individual light, it ships with the harness and switch for just the one light.

It's more money to order them individually, BUT, if you want to be able to control each light separately, thats the way to go.

But I will be turning them on and off as a set, so no matter to me.

If you only order one "Pair" and decide you want to control them individually, you can order another "single" harness directly from Rigid.

I had them temporarily mounted on my ROPS and they are freakin' bright !

I plan to mount them a little more permanently now that Winter is coming and I have the corrugated wire loom to run the wire in to make for a cleaner installation.

Since I want to remove them when I cut grass due to the low tree branches, I plan to use some big battery alligator clamps to hook up directly to the battery. It should be an easy on, easy off arrangement.

I have two different mounting brackets to choose from and have not decided which one I will yet, but am leaning towards the U-Bolt mounts.

I have a set from Messicks which is real quick and easy to mount/remove. No tools needed: General / Case 2X3 LGHT BRKT Part #3582

I also have a set of the U-Bolt brackets I bought from TractorCabDepot, but they dont carry them any more. I was able to find another place that has them. They are real heavy duty brackets, but you need tools to mount them: ROPS Mounted Light Bracket (pair)

I have a strange gut feeling that the Wiedmannbros site is somehow linked with TractorCabDepot.

Anyway... those brackets are sweet !

Just curious... Since the BX25 has a 40 amp alternator, it could power about 12 additional 55 watt halogens. Is there some advantage to the LEDs that I'm missing that makes them worth so much?

My guess: far less heat, thus the bulbs will last much longer... not to mention the COOL FACTOR. Must admit though, I like your light kit for the BX.

I think that using LED's is a big consideration factor IF you have a smaller output Alternator. Then, the amount of light output versus the amount of AMPS required is a huge deal.

I have a B2150 and the OEM dynamo was a pretty small capacity, not capable of running much else in the way of lights/accessories.

So I installed the alternator upgrade kit and can run plenty of extra items now. In spite of the extra amp capacity I now have, I prefer the LED's as they "should" outlast Halogen lights by years, and the ones I bought are built to last. I also think the light is "whiter" and brighter than anything else I've seen.

Each of the Dually D2 lights I have puts out 2600 Lumens. That's a LOT of lumens, especially for something that is about 4" square.

Compare those lumens with some of the regular bulbs out there and I'll bet you will be shocked.

Look at some of the youtube videos that show the light output from some LED lights.

Expensive..... YEP! Worth it.....YEP! (At least to me it was.) YMMV.

For sure I had to force myself to pay the premium compared to the Halogen Lights available.

Part of things with the smaller alternator that you have to realize is that there are things on the tractor that do suck up some amperage. The alternator needs to power everything at once, and have enough gumption left over to charge the battery. Lights, pumps, computers, etc. LED's also typically put out a light that is closer to actual daylight and therefore easier on the eyes.

If you use LED's with the engine not running it will take forever to drain the battery.

Actually, more than just curious, market research. I've been considering adding an LED set up to our line of products to go along with our current Halogen light kits. The good LEDs are still pretty pricey. Specifically, the BX25 that prompted this thread, has about 400 watts of excess electrical capacity so I am interested in the reasons people might opt for the more expensive LEDs when available power isn't an issue.

Also the LED's are newer and different so everyone is going to want them. I like the color of light they put out.

The long life of the LED bulbs is a consideration. The LED's I bought claim a 50,000 Hour life..... that's incredible.

Only time will tell if that will hold true, and if it IS realistic, I'll be dead before those bulbs.

And even if I had a tractor with more than enough "extra" amp power, I do like the light appearance of the LED's.
