I was adjusting my ROPS and the welded nut on the frame which the thumb screw threads into broke off. I have I had my BX for only a few weeks and haven't used it much because of work. I realize it seems trivial but I am extremely disappointed by it. Has anyone else seen anything similar and any thoughts on how to get it repaired? I can't think of any easy way to fix without damaging the ROPS paint. Should I worry that I bought BX built on a bad quality day?

Have the dealer fix it under warranty. I wouldn't worry about the quality, Kubotas have a great track record on quality.

I agree- just go to your dealer and let them replace it for free. OTHO, if they won't, a good welding shop can weld it for you, you you will need to repaint it. just buy a can a gray kubota paint from dealer and it will be cheaper instead of replacing the whole rops.

Dealer fix or weld it. One of my my BX24 sway bars cracked where the nut attaches...dropped it of at the welders, got it back no charge! Now I have a Hobart 135 just for things like that!

I had the same issue on my (1 side)..I just removed the rops years ago on my BX24...Not needed unless FEL or BH is on. To me, crappy design..

So far it is only on one side more me (the right side). I thought about removing the ROPS but it is just too new for me. I will attempt to get it to my dealer. My job doesn't let me get home at a decent hour to get it to my dealer so it will take some time. Who knows once I have the ROPS off I am likely not to reinstall it.

There should be no question - this should be covered by warranty. But I'm not replying to that point. Absolutely do not remove the ROPS, if you value your life. - Frank

And a ROPS is great but all the years no one had it we all lived? How about be smart?

For me, level lawn, I do NOT need a ROPS for mowing...Gee, my old JD 455 had no rops with a FEL...Oh boy! Call the safety police.....

I've spent much of my youth on our family farms with much bigger stuff. Family experienced number of roll overs with the 1950's vintage tractors. Serious injuries but fortunately no deaths. None were because of foolishness. Groundhogs were to blame for two. Knowing myself I prefer to have the ROPS. For some reason Murphy's law seems to plagued my life. I agree mowing on the flat seems innocuous but you never know until you need it. I hope I can get mine fixed. Will keep you posted.

Ralphie,
If I'm not mistaken, the thumbscrew is there to prevent the 2 piece ROPS from rattling and probably has no structural function. Several other models come with the welded on nut but aren't supplied with the thumbscrews.
