BXpanded snow plow?

Can you back blade with that or would it pop off? Just wondering if it's good enough to pull snow away from some edges in tight spots.

Sure, its solid. Its held on by two brackets on the cutting edge, and a chain binder on the top.

But I usually have my rear blade on for counter weight anyway, so I generally use that.

I was forced to fire our plow guy last season after he left, on 2 occasions, a large pile of snow about 1/3 of the way down our 800 ft gravel driveway after a couple of storms. Granted it was a record winter but I bought a PTO snowblower to throw the snow further back into the woods since a plow was only piling it up. Plowing with my bucket wasn't fun on the long straightaways but I didn't want to take the bucket off. This might be a good compromise for what I need this season. Slap on the plow blade for the little storms but still have the blower and bucket readily available for moving the snow further out of the way.

That's one thing that appeals about it to me too, the easy on and off and it seems well built. I too have been pondering the combination of a 3 pt blower and the BXpanded plow. I like that I could blow the deep stuff and still scrape down the driveway with the plow, then quickly take it off for loader use, i/e/ fetching firewood or whatever.

Here's some things that I've discovered about plowing snow. I was using a 500cc Honda ATV but the same thing applies to small tractors.(I have a 30hp Kioti 4x4 with hydrostatic drive)
The blade on my Honda is designed pretty much like the Bxpanded plow.(It happens to be a Moose Plow) I really like the Moose plow and that is why I'm interested in the Bx.
Here's some thoughts on plowing.
1. If the driveway is too steep or the snows to deep, raise the plow. Don't try to take the whole driveway in one pass.
2. Plow down hill wherever possible. If you have to keep the blade up to get to the top, then do it. It's unbelievable how much you can do with gravity helping.
3. A lot of plowing problems have to do with the consistency of the snow. If it's the first or last snows of the year where you get a lot of slush and the snow is heavy, it's harder to move. But if it's that nice powder that comes mid-winter, it'll flow like water in front of the blade. What I'm getting at here is tire chains would work better in the first and last snows whereas mid-winter you probably wouldn't need them.
4. Don't worry too much about running into something that won't move under/in the snow. Those two springs on the back of the blade let the blade tip forward and relieves the strain on things.
During the summer, I would angle my ATV blade and grade my 3/4 minus gravel driveway.(200+ yards) I couldn't believe how well it did. I'm pretty sure the Bx would do the same. You just have to use a little common sense on how to set your tractor bucket so that it wouldn't dig in and create a hole.
Hope this helps.

Any other updates to this?

After spending hours moving 12" of snow yesterday with just the fel & BB I need to make some decisions.

my bxpanded plow also fits on my B2620. Quite a bit more traction than the BX had, so works even better.

My off-season plan got slightly derailed... I didn't add hydraulics to the bxpanded blade. I got a M59 with a hydraulic blade =) It pushes A LOT of snow.

Yeah, here's my rig Sno Pro Tractor Blades What's nice is it uses your hydraulics so changing the direction of the blade amounts to moving a lever rather than getting on and off the tractor and it's nice for making adjustments as you go. The drawback is price and I lost some weight in the front although 260lbs of suitcase weights weren't a big help yesterday in that stuff.

No update since my post of 4/2011. My virgin snow blade continues to prevent it from snowing here in VA. :) Who knows if it will get some use in 2013.

Save your money. I have purchased the bucket expander ring, BH dolly, quick on forks, quick on bucket hooks, and quick on trailer receiver and now the 72" snow plow with orange paint and skid shoes. Was quite happy with the over priced items until the huge bucks I wasted on this plow. I'm back to using my Tractor Supply 60 inch back blade and front bucket. If you just plow straight it would probably work fine. I found if I plowed on a curve my blade slid over and I was off the tractor unhooking readjusting and hooking back up again. Wishing I had that money back......I had also considered the EMP blade, better price but unless you have a heated garage the ratchet straps freeze up and can be a pain to take off when frozen. However the ratchet straps would not allow the slippage that I experienced with the bxpanded. For what it's worth.....

Tighten the binder properly and this doesn't happen. I found I had to adjust the mounting plate to the other hole to get the blade properly tight. Had a bit of sliding around like you did until I made the adjustment.

I Did Follow Instructions. Glad Yours Worked For You. I Had To Repair Shipping Damage As Well, Did You?

Granted I have only used mine a few times, but it's rock solid. If it moves around IMO either the binder isn't tight enough or you have the front chain too loose, which can I think could cause to much float of the plow, depending on how the bucket is adjusted, and possible cause the binder to loosen. I have been really rough on it trying to see if it will stay put, and the only time it popped off was when I was doing some scraping, and I lazily put it on (knowing it wasn't as tight as in the past).

I agree the shipping/packing is poor. I had no damage, but there needs to be stronger corners, etc when shipping heavy items. They can't slide and move around in the box otherwise the boxes will get destroyed.

First, thanks for the response, I forgot to thank the first guy. I'm glad yours works for you as well. Mine has never popped off just slid all the way to the side of the bucket after having to hammer fist the clamp closed. ( I would have thought that was tight.) Buyers remorse, you bet, here's why. I have uneven gravel and ground, thus the $85 shoe kit. I also have some concrete thus the $65 abrasion resistant cutting edge. So yes tilting my bucket/blade as well as having to turn all the time due to tight quarters makes this set up problematic. Oddly enough except for having to look backwards I never should have tried to one up my previous set up. 60" back blade with front bucket expanded can get me and most of my neighbors cleared in just a few hours. *Note* paid more for the bucket expander than the back blade. Both get used but the blade is on all year. The expander ring is just for picking up bulky not heavy loads, i.e. leaves, weeds from the lake and snow. For tight areas bucket straight up. With plow attached, not only is this set up longer, when I lift my bucket straight up (for tight turning areas) it makes the tractor even more tippy. I may find use for this plow when it comes time to grade the road. It seems heavy enough to stand up to the task and it will be used on longer and much straighter runs. Wish I could have used it on that last grade of the year the night before the deep freeze when I spent 3 hrs facing backwards. Paid $50 extra for orange paint and didn't want to scratch it all up but now thinking it's that or scrap. As for customer service I am officially done with bxpanded. Hadn't had a problem with any of the many purchases over the last 4 years but when I did.... lip service in place of customer service. Finally no service. His prices are too high for him to disregard a complaint. What would he care I have already purchased much of what he sells. While it would be relatively easy enough to fabricate a fix, for what I paid, I shouldn't have to. Also I knew it would add length just underestimated how much effect it would have on maneuverability and stability. Again buyers remorse. I couldn't in good conscience recommend this item. The only remorse on the BX25 is I should have bought it when I first started looking at it when it was a BX23. Love my baby bota!

Sounds like you are running the bucket expander and the plow at the same time?

I Wish That Was The Case. I Was Hoping To Try This After A Successful Plow But Now Know There Is No Need.
