Hey Folks,

Just traded up from my little Kioti CS2410 to a Kubota B3350 with a cab. Any recommendations for tinting the glass? AC works great, but still get those lobster arms by the end of the day.

Thanks, JimB

So far how do you like your B 3350? I'm trading my B2920 for a B 2650 with cab. I chose the 2650 to stay away from the emission devices on the 3350. I have sat in a B series with cab and as I remember the glass is tinted a little. If i were to tint it I would want pro to do it with the curves in the glass. Pictures of your new toy would be nice

There have been a couple of members, one recently who added tint to theirs and report good results. I agree with having it done professionally.

I plan on having one done this winter when I can have the time to park it and take the parts in as getting the whole machines in are problematic.

As my sig says.. I'm a tinter. I own one of the largest shops in the North east. Lots of options with window film. Do you use it at night ? Are you light sensitive ? Are you trying to stop heat and glare or just heat ? Does the tractor stay outside or is it stored indoors ? And of course budget.

All very good points. Our ex-son in law is in the same business and has done all of our tinting. Before getting ours done, I had no idea there were so many things to consider.

My Uncle used to be in the tinting business (sold out to his partner to pursue, of all things, farming) but they did Automotive as well as Residential / Commercial window tinting so some of those guys might be willing / able to come to you instead.

Especially if you're not in a rush, they can work you in when they have slow time. Never hurts to call around and ask.

Thanks for the information, I'd sure give it some thought, but I don't pay for any tinting or glass work; long story.

It's my understanding that silver reflective tint is illegal in some jurisdictions for cars and trucks that are driven on the highway.

In your experience does it offer enough of a benefit - in terms of I/R rejection and heat gain - to make it worth considering for a tractor that is not driven on the road ?

I don't think I would tint the front glass due to decreased visibility. Sides and back should be enough to keep majority of light and heat away. If tinting the front glass, leave the area where you are looking at the FEL bucket ( bottom half) clear. The visibility on cabs is already bad for loader work and tinting may make it impossible to see especially in shaded areas.

Gary,

Good point worth considering

Reflective film is illegal in all states for automotive uses. Think of it as a mirror and when light hits a mirror it can reflect back into someone's eyes and temporarily blind them. That said, all window film has a certain reflective value to it. There are only 3 things window film can do with light and heat. 1, absorb it, 2 reflect i, 3 transmit it. .. Some how some way those 3 things will equal 100% in a pie chart. There are what are called spectrally selective window films that are very ..very light. To the point where they are virtually un noticeable. It's possible to reject 50+% with a basically clear film. Clear film however does nothing to reduce glare. So to answer your question.. Yes film the windshield as well. Use a very light film but definitely tint it.

In the 70s they sold a spray on tint that worked okay. I did the windows on a 1958 Rambler with it. :)

Really no worries about the emission stuff in south Texas. If it ever gets <15 below freezing here, I doubt using the tractor would be on my todo list :). Besides, was ensured that the 7k series (late 2015 and above, I believe, mine is a 2016) engines don't have the problem any more. They've been using the same basic system on mining crawlers for over 10 years, and its saved a bunch of lives - in that closed in environment, of course. About the only real benefit for me is no more soot in the garage when starting it - even after its been sitting up for the winter - but I guess that counts, as I do have to breath that stuff.

Love it so far. That tall switch grass is now easily chewed up by the extra hp. Having the AC and nearly dust free cab is the biggest plus. Second to that I'd say goes the loaders joystick - having a 'true' 8-way stick is very nice.

About the only con has been the dashboard display. Call me old fashioned, but I'd much rather have a set of needle gauges any day.

I would agree about the dash display, as a pilot and a sports car nut round dials are easier to read as you just quickly look at the [position of the dial not actually what the number is. Digital you have to read the number. Oh well that's the way it is and I should get my B 2650 late tomorrow with the ballot forks and ballast box next week. I'm transferring my rear view camera from my old tractor and the y are doing the wiring for me.

I'm surprised you are getting sunburned through your Kubota factory tinted glass? I burn easily (Irish and Scot decent) but have never experienced a sunburn in my Kubota cab. I also can't use my self-darkening sunglasses because the cab glass filters out all the harmful UVB rays that normally darken my sunglasses in high glare conditions, and are known for causing sunburn and skin cancer.

I have all my windows done in 25% and the will be doing the windshield with 55% later, it was to hot that day and the guy was having difficult time.

I put a RV sun shade, it worked great and if it gets to dark out you can just pull the suction cups off the windows. It is a little awkward looking through at first, but didn't take long to get use to.
